Kingsthorpe College

Kingsthorpe College (KC), formerly Kingsthorpe Community College and before that Kingsthorpe Upper School, is a secondary school with academy status in Kingsthorpe, Northamptonshire. In 2012 it became a member of the Collaborative Academies Trust. It has about 1,200 students with c.180 in the sixth form. The school moved into a new building in 2007. It has been a specialist sports college with a second specialism in History since 2006.

The school is set on one site, which is located on Boughton Green Road. It was previously on two sites, the other being next to Welford Road, which is on the A5199. The college is a 'sports college', after changing from a Language College and a former ICT College. It is next to the main site of the University of Northampton allowing easy access and use of their facilities.

The year groups are now separated into five colour "houses", namely Green, Gold, Purple, Red and Blue.

Ofsted

In 2013 Ofsted stated that the scdool required improvement. In 2014 Ofted stated that senior leaders and governors were taking effective action to tackle the areas requiring improvement identified at the 2013 section 5 inspection.

Kingsthorpe

Kingsthorpe was once a Northamptonshire country village, but is now an affluent suburb to the north-west of the county town of Northampton, England. Kingsthorpe became part of the borough of Northampton in 1900. A tributary of the River Nene known as the Naseby Source or Brampton Nene flows through the area to the west from north to south, joining the main river west of the Carslberg Brewery near the south bridge. The suburb's facilities are centred on the main A508 and A5199 roads between Northampton town centre and leading to Market Harborough and Leicester respectively. The original village green still maintains a rural character, away from the major roads, overlooked by the church and picturesque vernacular cottages. Kingsthorpe originally had three water mills, some evidence of which can be found in the countryside around the suburb.

The name comes from the Danish word 'torp' which means small settlement, and a manor belonging to the king.
