Hello all!

I've been interested in medieval tomb effigies for quite some time, especially after a visit to Exeter Cathedral, for example Hugh de Courtenay's.

I've always wondered, however: are there actually 'people' inside these tombs, or are the remains held separately in vaults and these are simple monuments? If there were remains in them, what is likely left, just a skeleton? I read that Edward the Confessor's body is 'inside' his shrine, but for an individual's remains that old, what is likely to be left, dust?
