Is anyone in a position of needing a babysitter/nanny and the sitter asking for more money per hour than you make?
I literally am baffled by this. I get minimum wage and all that but here’s the thing- I make per hour barely above minimum wage. If I worked at In and Out making burgers, I’d make more per hour than I do! Also likely wouldn’t need child care if I did that.
I just don’t know how to reconcile this situation. I’m going to school and need some child care because apparently every Wednesday is a half school day and no pre-k day.
Before this gets crazy- I work in public safety. So does my SO. We work opposite schedules so we have kid care. Yes. You read that right. My SO and I work in public safety and barely make above minimum wage and this is our career. I only need care 1-2x a week for school. I have an issue paying someone $250-$300 a day to literally watch two kids, one of which can mostly care for himself. That breaks down to more than I make an hour, and $1,000-$1200 a paycheck. Which. Plot twist would be almost my entire pay check not kidding. I’m a newer working mom despite my oldest being 10. Is there something I’m missing for this type of situation? Or a way to talk to a babysitter about taking less than $25 an hour? Or I’m just unreasonable?
