Educator with 15 years experience. Waited 20 minutes for an interview. Got up and left.

I've been trying to find a school that's closer to home. I had a phone interview last week and the Assistant Principal seemed super excited about my skill set and what I could bring to the classroom.

Interview was supposed to be today at 10 am. I arrive on time and check in with the receptionist/secretary. And wait. Waited and waited. This isn't a fucking doctor's visit or a blind date. Someone could have let me know, "Hey sorry we are running behind, thank you for waiting!" or whatever. The place was practically empty, but I could hear people talking from offices behind the reception area.

So after a good twenty minutes I got up and told the receptionist I was no longer interested in the position. And I left.

Edit: Well this blew the fuck up!! I appreciate everyone’s opinion on what happened, as well as y’all’s different perspectives. Important note: they called me after they saw my resume posted on Indeed. I didn’t seek them out.

Edit #2: everyone who is saying they dodged a bullet or I dodged a bullet…. Please stop. This language is inappropriate for educators in light of our current societal & working environment. Thank you.

Holy cow can’t believe I just read that from the Washington post. Are there people out there that still believe that was such a large amount of money that people who needed it actually didn’t burn through that in a month(s)?

When did becoming a salaried employee become an excuse for your company to run you into the ground?

When I was hired on, I was told that occasionally when things were busy I would have to work around 50 hours a week, but I would be working 40 most of the time. I’m at week 8 of 60+ hours a week with no end in sight.

I just refused to take on another project that I have absolutely no bandwidth for. I’ve had radio silence from everyone all day about it. I want to say I’m worried about losing my job but honestly I don’t give a fuck at this point. And if they were to fire me they would be fucked, there’s literally no one who does what I do who can pick my work up. About 600k in contracts would go down the toilet if they fired me, so your move bitches.

So cheers to not giving a fuck and wish me luck while I look for another job!

And Fuck capitalism

Hard work gets you nowhere

At my current job, there was a manager who worked very hard for 6 years. He was even praised by a higher up for being a “perfect manager,” and I was told that “they never had any problems with him.” But then I realized he quit because he never was promoted. One of our area supervisors (the position above manager) got the position after only 2 year on the job. Turns out, his dad was friends with the owner. So on one hand, you have a guy who was a perfect manager, always showed up on time and did his job for 6 straight years. On the other hand, you have a guy who was never even a manager, but went straight to the supervisor position because he had connections. Imagine working that hard for over half a decade for literally nothing. There is no use following the rules, listening to management, or being a good employee. Most good work goes unnoticed, and all good work goes unrewarded.
