Padres de la patria

El mas obvio es el legado de Agustín de Iturbide, quien en su tiempo era considerado el padre de la patria y principal actor en la independencia mexicana.

Hoy en día seria considerado uno de los grandes liberadores de America al lado de George Washington, Bernardo O’Higgins y Simón Bolívar, si no fuera por las continuas campañas por parte de los gobiernos de finales del siglo XIX e inicios del XX para borrar su impacto en la historia mexicana.

Hoy en día se le excluye y en vez son considerados padres de la patria otros personajes que tuvieron un rol más simbólico, como Miguel Hidalgo.

La extraña fascinación con la identidad azteca

La cultura mexicana tiene mucha mucha mas influencia Europea que indígena americana, incluyendo la estructura social, forma de gobierno, lenguaje, religión, arquitectura, vestimenta, muchas costumbres, muchos aspectos de la cocina mexicana.

Una forma fácil de visualizarlo es: si te transportarán al año 1490 con una máquina del tiempo, en cual ciudad encajarías mejor, Tenochtitlán o Madrid?

La influencia nativa indígena que se me ocurre está limitada a algunas palabras, algunas costumbres quizás, algunos ingredientes en la cocina mexicana, algunos aspectos de la vestimenta tradicional, y claro no se puede negar que la mayoría de mexicanos tiene sangre indígena (así como europea)

Sin embargo muchos mexicanos piensan que Mexico es una especie de continuación del imperio Azteca, cuando en realidad casi todo lo que sabemos de los Aztecas es por fuentes secundarias españolas o por hallazgos arqueológicos. No hay ninguna continuidad ni cultural ni estatal ni de ningún tipo.

Si queremos celebrar nuestra herencia indígena también es incorrecto adoptar la identidad azteca. La mayoría de los mexicanos que tienen sangre indígena seguramente no descienden de los aztecas sino que de las cientos de otras etnias que abarcaban México.

Los aztecas eran el imperio que dominaba el valle de Mexico con opresión, a tal punto que varias etnias indígenas se aliaron para destruirlo, junto con los españoles.
