Mumbai and it’s supposed overflow city Navi Mumbai have failed to show any improvement in public infrastructure, quality of living, investments, IT sector development.
No company in the world would want to enter Mumbai because of its lack of public infrastructure.
The housing situation is pathetic. When compared to Banglore, Chennai, Gurugram, Noida, Delhi, etc the Mumbai apartments are uglier, dirtier, tinier and the societies are so ugly and outdated but definitely overpriced.
People can always find a better housing facility in other cities for a much better price. Naturally the foreign investments are looking towards Ahmedabad, Chennai, Gurugram, etc
The political situation is a joke in MH. There is no strong local leader. The only two local parties to have originated in Maharashtra have been destroyed and split up by Gobhi65 and hairless Mota.
Only a small percentage of Mumbai residents have access to clean water supply. Most of the redditors probably belong to that category.

The Mumbai Monorail is a FAILURE.
The Mumbai Metro will definitely be affected by the extreme corruption in the Government and the BMC.
I’m damn sure that the Airport connectivity and the rest of the metro development will get delayed and postponed by a couple of decades at least.
The quality of the roads, buses and local trains is just pathetic.
Half of the city gets flooded as soon as the monsoons start. The BMC “flood prevention Blah blah” department does some shoddy work before monsoons which is just like applying lipstick on a Pig.
The city is a failure in terms of planning, failure in terms of switching from mills to IT, Medical, and other modern areas of investment, failure of Public works departments, failure of the public transport system, failure of the political system
Mumbai is India’s biggest city in decline. Even the politicians who rule Mumbai don’t care about Mumbai and are happy to ship off projects to other cities while ignoring that fact that lack of proper housing, transport modalities being the reason for the shift in investment trends
The brokers have a monopoly and operate like mafia. No house is rentable without a broker and they demand we pay brokerage every year again and again as a yearly charge.
It’s the most insane thing I’ve ever heard of
Mumbai is Indian poster city for URBAN HELL
as the title says.
ive seen too many incidents recently that would have blew up if recorded at the time. gov officials in india have no shame at all nd they feel no obligation to do their own goddamn work. and when told do so or their authority is challenged, they resort to physical and verbal abuse straight away.
the reason being they dont feel no fear at all of the person in front of them and the possible backlash they might face if seen by others. and even if one is trying to record them they become violent bcoz they think itll not end up on internet bcoz of us being very passive attitude towards them.
now ik there wont be immediate justice bcoz of this but hey unless we start doing it these officials wont feel even a bit of shame and fear of getting caught. i saw one video of thane, maharashtra. in that a lady minister of some kind slaps a civic engineer for idk what reasons. whatever it may be but she doesn't have any authority to slap him or ridicule him through verbal abuse in middle of a road. when told that it is being recorded, she says 'hone de na record'.
this just shows they dont have fear at all of being record bcoz it isnt a very well known thing nd it doesnt end up on people's ears. ik a majority of population might not have a smartphone but its ok you dont have to record them 4k to shame them, as long as there is a face nd audio it should be fine.
I just arrived today. The city is just horrible. There's so much congestion. Way too much. It smells horrible - like literal piss which has been left unclean for days or months (Don't ask how I know that smell). There's way too much honking. Way too many old vehicles. And what the fucks wrong with the people - don't they paint their own homes? At least clean them up? Everything looks like they are centuries old and collected enough dust to think that there has been a dust storm. Ironically it's named New Delhi. Roads are terrible. Pillion riders are literally riding on footpaths (if you could even call them that). Did I talk about pollution - God, that's awful. I had to travel an hour for a 3 fucking km long travel.
I'm not sure if the entire New Delhi is like that, but the places I've been to had enough shit for me to be disgusted with the entire city.
I've lived in U.S and recently moved back to Hyderabad. The cities in U.S are pretty bad too, but they are at least tolerable. Hyderabad is pretty good actually. It's at least clean.
Sorry for my language and if I hurt anyone.
I mean I can't use the note anyway so why not keep it for my own amusement. I like collecting old notes and coins and thought of keep all this withdrawn notes by RBI as well. Do u think it would be a problem or would it be a crime of some sort?
Just saw a few clips of Elvish Yadav from Big Boss,he was talking to fellow contestants. He was basically admonishing (roasting) them.
I have encountered many people in my life who are like this and I find it difficult to interact with them,I just ignore them. But the problem is it feels like I have lost to them and I am hardly ever able to face them.
How to deal with such people?
No hate to Elvish Yadav.Just looking to learn something.

At first I didn’t connect a credit card because you know it takes a month or two to get an Indian checking account/debit card and my American cards don’t work for Ola. So happy I didn’t, because
-
I have to go through 2-4 drivers for every single ride. They usually try to call me 50 times to ask me to cancel because they’re too far away or try to negotiate a higher fee in advance. If I had a credit card connected, I’d be paying who knows how many rupees in cancellation or other bs fees
-
You can see from my name I am not Indian and I don’t speak Tamil. I wish the drivers had some sense and didn’t bother to call me. Before I learned to just not pick up the phone and let them cancel, I could honestly not understand anything they said anyway.
-
Budget an extra 20 minutes in the city center, 45 minutes on the outskirts, or even more before you want to go anywhere just to go through this rigamarole. I’m writing this as I wait on my third Ola driver in 39 minutes, let’s see if this one shows up . . .
-
For drivers: I tip if you don’t pester me! I always give an extra 50. For a long trip maybe 80 or 100, for a long trip at night even 150 or 200. But
-
If you try to renegotiate the price when I get in the car, I just get out. I’ve already been waiting 30,40,50 minutes, I don’t have to pay a cancel fee because I don’t have a connected card, so idgaf
-
Some drivers seem to think it’s ok to yell at women here, and/or think they can scare foreign women they perceive as “rich” Into giving them extra money. Don’t play yourself, I’m from New York, I’ve probably taken ten thousand cab rides in my life, I have zero fear and zero f*cks to give and will yell back at you, give you a 1 star rating, and give you exact change with coins out of spite, 😂
-
1/4 drivers lock you in the car and drive all Over town to drive up the fare, and you have to request a refund voucher through Ola that’s less than half the difference. Today, on my way to the hospital! The jerk driver extended the trip for 50 minutes! To drive the fare up by 400 rupees. First of all, that’s practically kidnapping, secondly, ola only gave me a voucher for 165 rupees to make up for it.

The upside?! Is that between this and the traffic, no one really expects you to be on time for anything here. 3:15 doctors appointment? Try 4:40. 10:30 meeting? People will roll in at 11:20, seriously.
Yesterday, I was supposed to board a train whose arival time was around 8 pm, and it came at fucking 11:30 pm. Okay, i forgive you, i was gonna reach at 3 am, three hours late, now it's gonna be 6 am, fine. No, somehow it manages to delay it by 4 hrs more. Do you really fucking think we don't have a life?! The weather was totally fine, how are you 7 hrs late to reach the destination?!
Anyway, I was lucky my work was completed just in time. Now I am at my return train's source station and it is 1.5 hr late at the source. How can you be late at the source station 😭. What excuses do you wanna make now!!
This topic has been in my mind for sometime now. Whenever I see people being identified by their job, I wish they don't do the same for me. Eg. S/W Engineer got scammed. Every time I read something like this it makes me feel like this society only identifies that person by their work and nothing else.
I don't ever want to be identified by my work. If I am ever kind to anyone, I want to be identified as such. If I have ever been a good friend, I want to be identified as such.
Like many in India, I'm tired of bribes and of trying to find a 'trustworthy' agents
Most of us are tired of bribes and of trying to find a 'trustworthy' agents. We want to follow the legal process, even if it means waiting endlessly or sometimes taking matters to court.
I have tried both. Waiting endlessly for local bureaucrats to act and taking matters to High Court My story in The Hindu
Unless you have a very high connection or recommendation, it is hard to say NO to bribes. In some departments in local governments (e.g revenue department, housing, property registration, RTO etc) NOTHING will move unless you come with a high-level recommendation or grease the palms. It is just a fact of life.
For example, many RTO offices around large cities have an 'organized' system with a network of agents and touts sitting outside who will get work done for a fee.
However, larger departments like urban property, land-records and revenue departments are more opaque and it is harder to find agents who can be trusted. This is a bigger challenge when the bribe/'fee' amount can run into lakhs.
How do you navigate the process and find 'agents'?
