Fellow Deck owners, what's your favorite single player game that you don't think enough people know about? by TheHeroOfPokke in SteamDeck

[–]Biquet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a GTA clone in Hong Kong. More emphasis on fighting with your fists and less on gun fights.

It's ok. A solid 7/10 game for me. Not the absolute master piece hidden gem a lot of people pretend it is, for me personally.

Yeah gtfo. You get crucified for pointing out any flaw the Steam Deck has.

You talking about the fishing challenge in Jak 1? Your comment made me think of that challenge immediately.

Pure arcade-y fun and the soundtrack is just on point.

The Last Of Us is a great game. I don’t think it’s a masterpiece by DM_ME_UR_CUTE_DOGGOS in patientgamers

We had a nearly identical experience with the game. Great game but not really a "masterpiece" experience for me.

I do see how some people hold the game in very high regards though, if the story did resonate with them more than it did with me.

Burnout 3. I don't like racing games but this one is just so much fun.

I could definitely google how to finish those games. I don't think it's an enjoyable experience though.

Didn't say I didn't play as intended.

Having to "plan ahead" just makes the gameplay even more clunky. Your AI companions being complete tools don't help either.

I'm not max level. I did not grind. I didn't ask for tips.

The buffs/debuffs weren't the problem. The sheer damage and bulkiness were. Also the fact that the game takes your bench away. Without warning.

There is no need for grinding in that game. Newly hatch monsters are 2 levels behind and you can level them up with easy to obtain items.

Yes. I specifically said that I did not need to grind up to that point. Strange you didn't notice. I'd still have to grind if I would want my monsters to be higher level though. Or fight monsters ("grind") to get eggs, to be able to hatch new monsters. Or fight monsters ("grind") to atleast test out new monsters a little.

I could also just go look up the ideal team composition. Or know how to minmax/optimize my team after hours of play.

Mmmh. The battle system has basically no depth. It's just clunky as hell. The "guard" button is actually an insanely good example of that. Can you "guard" with the press of a button? No. You have to go through the list of possible actions and select "guard". If you're in another animation, you'll have to wait till it ends. If the enemy attacks before the end of the animation, bad luck.

I'm glad you enjoyed the game more than I did. I like gameplay to be a little more involved than "bash this mob for xp" and "bash that mob for that resource".

Very casual player here. Is "not having a subscription" not the excuse for not releasing stuff regularly?

The fights leading to the final boss were pretty challenging to me as well. The final one was just one a whole other level and the fact that you can only use 3 monsters is brutal. Without any warning either.

I'm talking about story bosses exclusively. I have no problems with games having optional challenges after the main story.

it’s standard anime cliche

Not really. I don't know any animes where the main character ignores the "world is dying and needs saving now" to actually go fight some randoms while the villain patiently waits.

Grind is not always fun, but if it’s an option then why not.

That's the problem for me. It's not optional.

Totally agree. It's always either a number (need to be lvl X) or threshold (need ability Y) thing. Or you already played the game and already master its combat system.

Not disagreeing but SteamOS definitely has ads. For games. A lot of them actually.

Personally I feel like the journey of playing through the story and the game normally should prepare you, the hero, enough to actually beat the story, which is represented by the final boss.

In my opinion, a lot of stories have a sense of urgency which makes grinding "out of tone" story-wise. It is the case in both the games I discussed anyway.

I know it's an opinion thing though.

My brother skates. He spent way more time just goofing around in Skate 3 than any other skating games, including Tony Hawk games.
