I'm a last-year Ph.D. student at the University of Geneva where I am currently writing my thesis about diffusive transport in quantum mechanics. Recently, I go by "that board game guy" at conferences after having created |Hop>, a board game designed to introduce concepts of quantum physics without any of the complex math.

Because I am trying to avoid writing the thesis... I decided to launch the crowdfunding campaign of |Hop> and thought it was an excellent time to do an AMA. Tomorrow, I am also going to meet Prof. Hugo Duminil-Copin (last year's Fields medalist) to shoot a video for |Hop>'s Instagram, and I can forward the best questions to him as well! So, Ask Me Anything! I'll be answering questions from 22h to 24h CET (14h to 16h EDT) and will try to answer the rest in the following days.

I have a lot of questions about what is going on here on this video of a glacier I took. I took Geology in college, but I can't remember too much.
Questions I ask but don't know the answers to:

  1. Is this bad?

  2. Why does it look like a river?

  3. Why is the water so undisturbed?

  4. Where did all this (frozen)water come from initially?

When I picture a crater, I think a bowl - deeper in the middle, with a "ridge" at the edge. Here we see a ring shaped lake around René-Levasseur island - deeper at the edge, elevated in the middle.

Obviously we've had 100+ million years geography changing events since this impact, but I'm still having a hard time wrapping my head around how this would form. I've tried googling it but haven't found the sweet spot of keywords to explain what I'm seeing. Maybe I am just a victim of Hollywood craters? Do I have it all wrong?
