With the fight being announced as a boxing match, obviously Fury is a massive favorite. And if the roles were reversed and they were competing in MMA, the opposite would certainly be true. A contest with more parity would surely be more interesting, though. But what ruleset could they have set up to make this a genuinely even match?
Ngannou would dominate any competition that requires grappling (BJJ, wrestling, Judo). I’m even of the opinion that a Muay Thai or kickboxing contest would still heavily favor Ngannou, with his kicks representing such a massive advantage, though I’m sure some will disagree with that.
Here’s my idea: what if you put on a boxing match in a cage with MMA gloves and allowed full use of the clinch? No elbows or lower body strikes, just give Ngannou the chance to push him to the fence and use as much dirty boxing as he wants. That seems as close to an even match as you could get to me. What are your ideas?
Every now and then a prospect will burst on to the scene with huge wrestling credentials but tbh, I don't understand the "level" of prestige their accomplishments are.
Rinya Nakamura won that road to ufc show thing and is supposed to be a high level wrestler, as a U23 world champion. What does that mean?
Bubba Jenkins was hyped for a while and he's a "junior world champ and an NCAA D1 wrestler."
Wikipedia says Aaron Pico won second in the US olypmic team trials and is a junior world champion and a Cadet world champion.
Cormier has "World bronze medalist, world cup runner up, pan american games gold medalist" as some of his accomplishments.
There seems to be an endless number of titles and championships in wrestling. Can someone help put some of the common high level wrestling accomplishments in perspective for me?
Like maybe, something like
-
Medaling in the Olympics
-
maybe D1 Wrestling? idk
-
??
-
???
etc.
