There have been a few posts on here lately about the Houston Museum of Natural Science quality has been declining the last few years. All the new exhibits are feeling like nothing but hype and lacking substance. The Stonehenge, Tut, and currently the sharks just feel like half-assed money grabs.
I have friends that work there and the pay is abysmal. They're all overworked and short staffed. Management says they're making record profits! but, additional staff and hours just "aren't in the budget" and "we're a non profit". Meanwhile the President has gone from $283,124 in 2017 to over $700,000!!!! in 2021. Can't imagine what he's making now. Anyone else get a $400k+ raise in the last few years? Oh, but they were really excited to announce the raise in base pay to a whopping $12 dollars an hour!!!
For fucks sake. These people need to Unionize.
Here's the annual tax records for your reference.
Oh and if you do work at HMNS, here's a union you might be interested in. AFSCME
p.s. I love museums and I hate money grubbing CEO's.
edit: Oh and it's been brought to my attention that the President Joel Bartsch is "allegedly" using the museum as leverage to bankroll his professional softball team? WTF. Apparently some of the museum contractors were encouraged to make MILLIONS of dollars in payments to Bartsch's team in exchange for favorable treatments on museum contracts.
