Been thinking for a while now: In what way could a business advertise/make shoppers aware that they accept monero without saying it, or affixing a sign somewhere in their business stating as much?
I figure, if the goal is to keep in-store purchases, made with Monero, quiet, then a Monero sticker would be too obvious. Maybe a QR Code would work?
Regardless the method, I believe, in the best case, it should convey three things:
-
That the store accepts Monero
-
The Respective store's Monero Address
-
Any other misc information needed to be added the Transaction tag/TX to link the payment to whatever service or good is being acquired.
Thoughts? Opinions?
I turned all 18 Monero themed fiction and science fiction short stories that I wrote so far and published here over the years into a nicely formatted e-book in the EPUB format. I added short forewords to the stories, keywords, and a link section where you can read more about some of the subjects that the stories touch.
You can either download the e-book from my GitHub site for free, or from Amazon where it's available for the price of USD 1.00. If you buy it on Amazon you may consider your payment to be something like a donation to me in fiat currency. For donations in XMR you find my address here

What do people actually use monero for? What's special about xmr, I'm curious and really want to know.. is there something special about it?
Given the success of the previous MAAMs (see here), let's keep this rolling.
The principle is simple: ask anything you'd like to know about Monero, especially the dumb questions that you've been keeping for you every other days, may the community clarify it all!
Finally, credits to binaryFate for starting the concept!
Hey guys, serious question. Am I a fool for thinking Atomic Swaps are overrated for the Monero community? I mean, if you use Monero, what is the advantage on getting Bitcoin that has a very high chance of being tainted? Can someone smarter explain as if I was a 5 yo?
I mean, let's say you are already used to Monero, but you want to swap to Bitcoin. You will only do that, as I can think of, for two reasons:
-
You want to speculate and make more Monero in the future;
-
You need to pay something and the person / entity does not accept XMR;
On the first case, by doing an AS you might end up holding a bunch of Bitcoin that is being tracked by the FBI because of a ransomware attack, or unlicensed gambling website, or any other sort of tainted Bitcoin. If you wanted to speculate, it would be easier to just send your Monero into a regulated exchange, centralized exchange or instant exchange and receive clean Bitcoin. On the second case, the same happens. If you get the Bitcoin and then pay someone, this entity might see your tainted funds and report you to the nearest law enforcement agency. So, where is the advantage? As far as I can see, an Atomic Swap service would be filled by tainted Bitcoins and would not pose any advantage to those who are already in Monero. What does the community think about this?
Unstoppableswap started with a web based approach to atomic swaps but since switched to (and recommends) their native desktop client.
Other web based atomic swap providers showed up recently claiming that they use atomic swaps under the hood.
Is there a way to proof that what has been initiated is an actual atomic swap?
Because then I would start recommending those services over other instant swap services. And consequently it also should be integrated to swap aggregators like trocador.app or in apps like CakeWallet or StackWallet.
Please stay on topic: this post is only for comments discussing the uncertainties, shortcomings, and concerns some may have about Monero.
NOT the positive aspects of it.
Discussion can relate to the technology itself or economics.
Talk about community and price is not wanted, but some discussion about it maybe allowed if it relates well.
Be as respectful and nice as possible. This discussion has potential to be more emotionally charged as it may bring up issues that are extremely upsetting: many people are not only financially but emotionally invested in the ideas and tools around Monero.
It's better to keep it calm then to stir the pot, so don't talk down to people, insult them for spelling/grammar, personal insults, etc. This should only be calm rational discussion about the technical and economic aspects of Monero.

How it works:
Post your concerns about Monero in reply to this main post.
If you can address these concerns, or add further details to them - reply to that comment. This will make it easily sortable
Upvote the comments that are the most valid criticisms of it that have few or no real honest solutions/answers to them.
The comment that mentions the biggest problems of Monero should have the most karma.
As a community, as developers, we need to know about them. Even if they make us feel bad, we got to upvote them.

If anyone else is interested in teaching themselves about Bulletproofs, this is what I am personally finding useful:
https://github.com/AdamISZ/from0k2bp/blob/master/from0k2bp.pdf
https://doc-internal.dalek.rs/bulletproofs/index.html
from0k2bp can be treated as an extension of Zero to Monero that covers Bulletproofs. If you found Zero to Monero helpful, you may want to give from0k2bp your attention. Note that these resources are included as citations in Zero to Monero, but they are easy to miss if you aren't looking for them.
The following are a bit more specific to me, but if you are looking to play around with Bulletproofs in Python I think these are interesting:

If anyone has other sources they think would be useful, please share.
Hi all,
Tommy from AllArk here.
We've been busy developing more awesome stuff for Monero. With the regulatory and governmental restrictions on the only private cryptocurrency, Monero, as well as exchanges being forced to delist it, we realized it's a great time to take XMR price manipulation away from centralized exchanges and put them on a decentralized platform with transparent liquidity.
To this end we have launched two important things
-
A WXMR token that can be traded transparently and reflects 1:1 backing eith XMR.
-
A DEX on Ethereum L1 which will have the liquidity to trade WXMR as well as enable TRUE price discovery.
We will be minting WXMR as and when someone buys them and these will be sent to the ETH address specified. Anyone can purchase WXMR with the equivalent amount of XMR (or the other crypto we support).
Initial mint will be a fraction of currently available XMR.
The DEX will allow all XMR that are bridged to also have an equal amount of Liquidity in USDT.
DeFi allows us to set XMR free from the paper Monero being manipulated on exchanges.
We are also working on WXMR to XMR redeemability. No more paper monero BS.
Hope this helps the Monero community get free of the antagonistic exchanges that suppress and weaken the true value of the best cryptocurrency out there. :)
Cheers
Tommy from AllArk
What are your favorite ways to obtain Monero? Exchanges you favor?
I was wondering if it would be dumb to make profits doing that. Seems to be an easy way to sell at a premium.
Hello all, I am a developer working on the testshop Monero P2P marketplace project and we are looking for a C or C++ dev with experience working with NAT traversal protocols such as UPnP, NAT-PMP, and STUN/TURN (ICE).
Peer discovery has already been implemented so this is the last thing we need implemented in order to bootstrap the network and finally go live. After that, we will move forward with the GUI development phase.
This is volunteer work as I'm broke and cannot hire a developer. If possible, we can figure out how to raise funds to hire the person we're looking for. Any help would be highly appreciated. Thank you for reading!

Hi,
When I receive Monero I always make new subaddress and IMO its decent OPSEC.
But what when sending Monero? How to increase anonymity?
Also, I am running my own node. Will running it without routing it through TOR harm OPSEC?
I haven't used MyMonero for a few years. Yesteday I sent 1.15 Monero to a store. A few minutes later 7.95 Monero left my wallet with 6.8 Monero Locked. 1.15 Monero arrived at the destination a few minutes later. Today there are no locked Monero in my wallet but 6.8 Monero are missing. My wallet is scanning the blockchain but is 258153 blocks behind. What's going on? Thanks

I'm looking for a new bank, i thought i would try and see if i can find one that would also be able to convert USD cash into Monero. Does this exist or do most banks stay away from crypto? I'd want one with typical online features like bill pay through a 'checking' account, ATM access, etc...
This is the weekly Monero market thread. This thread will be posted every Friday and is meant to help accelerate the adoption of Monero. Due to r/moneromarket having only a fraction of the subscribers of r/Monero, we have decided to create this thread to encourage more individuals to use Monero for product exchanges. Until the market matures, we recommend that the Monero community post their products both in this thread and on r/moneromarket (to ensure growth of that subreddit).
Selling items for Monero will boost your (and Monero's) reputation as a legitimate form of exchange of goods. This is necessary for the growth of Monero, our community, and privacy as a whole.

Give a description of the item.
