My reporting on the rape & sexual misconduct allegations against “Durte Dom” sparked massive fallout for David Dobrik’s biz empire, including venture capitalist funds backing away from his start-up Dispo — he stepped down after my coverage.

I also broke sexual assault & violence allegations against makeup mogul Jeffree Star, who I later reported wielded a $45,000 hush-money payment from his cosmetics company against one of the accusers.

You can check out all my non-paywalled work here and my Insider exclusives here. I’ve profiled Belle Dephine, reported on a labor lawsuit against James Charles, and done deep dives into YouTube’s faulty moderation when it comes to repeated rule-breakers. AMA!

Edit: I'll still be around to answer a few more questions that I couldn't get to in an hour, but no new requests, please! Thanks so much to everyone who came curious. Feel free to follow me on Twitter & Instagram at @kattenbarge to see more of my work.

I founded Insider’s music team in 2020. I mostly write about pop music and I love to interview rising singer-songwriters, particularly women and queer artists. I covered Coachella on the ground this year (for the second time) and I’m here to talk about festivals, live music, stan culture, and more!

Hey all! Our team has been working on a big database project about every restaurant in Disney World, with breakdowns by price and our favourites overall. I'm a social media fellow and didn't work on this, but as someone who loves the parks I can say it's super thorough and really well done!

Here is the link to the full database.

Putin always disappears when he is too afraid of answering embarrassing questions.

For example, that time when Nemtsov was assassinated. Putin was nowhere to be found, prompting rumors that he died, including a catchy song.

After Prigozhin's rebellion, experts say Putin looks weak. More from our reporting:

  • Yevgeny Prigozhin's rebellion is over but the damage to Vladimir Putin is irreversible, experts say.

  • Among Moscow's elites, "there is the growing feeling that he is a lame duck," a Russian journalist said.

  • That assessment was shared by the Institute for the Study of War, a Washington-based think tank. Researchers with the group said the mutiny, though it did not topple the government, embarrassed Putin before friend and foe alike, revealing that he no longer enjoys a monopoly of force within his own country.

From the article —

  • Amul Thapar, a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, has come out in defense of Justice Clarence Thomas over his relationship with billionaire real estate developer Harlan Crow.

  • In an interview with CNN, Thapar rejected any notion that Thomas' decisions had been influenced by luxury trips provided by Crow.

  • "We [judges] have a diverse group of friends, and those friends don't influence the way we do our job," Thapar told the network.

  • Without going into the specifics of the relationship between Thomas and Crow, Thapar said that in order to ascertain whether there are any unethical influences in a judge's decisions, one must examine their entire work.

TL;DR — From the article:

  • When Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Russian mercenary outfit Wagner Group, launched his brief insurrection on Friday, he said he had the support of the Russian people.

  • Some of that support was on display hours later after he called on his troops to turn back just 120 miles from Moscow.

  • Videos and images from the scene of their departure show Russians cheering and fist-bumping Wagner soldiers.

  • Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin previously said Wagner captured the military hub without firing a shot.

TLDR, from reporter Alia Shoaib:

  • Wagner Group fighters entered the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don in an apparent armed rebellion.

  • Further, the UK MoD said that Wagner units are heading toward Moscow on Saturday.

  • Russian President Vladimir Putin called the apparent mutiny a "betrayal" in a speech on Saturday morning and said that Russia would defend itself and mutineers would be punished.

Excerpt, from reporter Ayelet Sheffey:

Conservative Justice Brett Kavanaugh just ruled against two states' standing to sue the federal government. There's a similar issue in one of the lawsuits seeking to block President Joe Biden's student-loan forgiveness.

On Friday, Kavanaugh authored an opinion in the case United States v. Texas, in which Texas and Louisiana sued the Department of Homeland Security and accused it of violating federal law for prioritizing some non-US citizens who entered the country illegally for arrest and deportation over others. The Supreme Court ruled 8-1 that the states lack standing to bring the suit, with Justice Sam Alito as the lone dissent.

"This bedrock constitutional requirement has its roots in the separation of powers," Kavanaugh wrote in the opinion. "So the threshold question here is whether the States have standing to maintain this suit. Based on this Court's precedents and longstanding historical practice, the answer is no."

TLDR, from reporter Ryan Hogg:

  • Wagner soldiers' families receive about 5 million rubles (about $60,000) when a relative is killed.

  • Several women told Bloomberg they'd been given bags of cash that they haven't put in banks.

  • That means more than $1 billion in cash may now be in circulation, affecting Russia's economy.
