Edit: I suspect the Presidents remarks will be about the new repayment plan. If it is it will only likely be broad information. I'll make a new post if it is announced with whatever information is given but I wanted to set the stage that we may not have all the answers yet if it is announced. The federal register..which is where the actual rules will be published..has already come out today and the new plan isn't in it.
As I think many expected, the Supreme Court issued its opinion today and sadly, have struck down the Biden/Harris debt relief
For questions and comments about the litigation itself please use the horse's excellent pinned post here https://www.reddit.com/r/StudentLoans/comments/13xrmve/litigation_status_bidenharris_debt_relief_plan/
For questions or comments about what this means for borrowers please use this OP. As the day progresses please skim the thread to see if your question has already been addressed. I will edit the OP throughout the day with FAQ's. In the meantime, questions about repayment restart might already be answered here https://freestudentloanadvice.org/repayment-plan/federal-loan-repayment/repayment-restart-news-updates-and-advice/
FAQ
How does this affect the proposed new income driven plan/pslf/the idr adjustment etc?
it doesn't. This decision only kills the Biden/Harris debt relief
What if i received a refund due to COVID. Do I now have to pay it back?
Yes. You can either pay it as a lump sum or let the loan go back into repayment come October and pay it via a payment plan the loan might be eligible for.
So when will payments restart?
Interest will begin accruing on September 1st and payments will start being due in October. (per the ED a few days ago - if this changes due to the date of the opinion i'll update this)
Will the White House take another shot at this?
I doubt it - one would think they will have used what they thought was their strongest legal argument out of the gate. But this is a better question for the litigation thread
Edit: looks like they are going to take another shot after all. See my post about the presidents remarks

I’m a 27 year old guy, and I’ve ordered DoorDash a bunch over the years. This was easily the most bizarre interaction I’ve ever had while using the app. My Doordash driver was a woman, I’m guessing she was around 21ish. We chatted for a minute, and I made a stupid joke about ordering sushi in the area we reside in because there isn’t a body of water near us. The following day around 2 PM that same Doordasher knocks on my door asking if I wanted to hangout…. I was really caught off guard, and just made up an excuse that I had to leave soon. Has anyone had this happen before? It’s always dawned on me that delivery drivers will know exactly where I live, which can hypothetically be quite creepy. She seemed cool the day before, but randomly showing up was just wild. Luckily I’m moving soon! Have a great weekend fam!

My wife (50F) and I (52M) have not been getting along for the past 5 years. In fact, of our 15 year marriage, around 8 of them were spent sexless. Around 5 years ago, I tried to broach the idea of an amicable divorce but my wife would not have it. She cried, refused to do housework or even acknowledge the kids. She is a SAHM and I work 55+ hours a week as a concierge supervisor at a hotel. I nearly lost my job from the stress of that period.
She finally said that she would divorce after all the kids (14F, 13F, 10M) left the house, and I just gave up and hoped things would pick up. So we settle back to me dealing with demanding guests during the day hoping my $60k a year can turn into $65k one day, and then coming home to a cold, sarcastic wife.
There were times when I found somebody else attractive, but I never acted on those feelings. I just thought about my kids and how I needed to continue to love my wife because she was their mom. And how I could sleep at night knowing I was keeping their parents under one roof.
Then one day I come home to my wife crying. She tells me that she has been unfaithful. And that from age 24 to age 33, she was dating a married man 30 years older than her, but they rekindled their affair a few months after we married.
She told me that we were very poor at the time and that he got her a job at a company and helped supplement her salary with cash gifts, and I never knew about it. All this time I thought it was leasing commissions.
And she tells me that he just died and in the state of Louisiana all biological kids under 24 have a claim to his estate. He stayed with his long suffering wife and refused to acknowledge the girls but my wife said she took my DNA without me knowing a long time ago and that they are not mine, but my son is.
To say I was furious was an understatement. I know part of the reasons she stayed with me is because I had hopes of starting a business but life got in the way. But now that she can sue a rich man's estate she tells me and doesn't seem to care that I filed for divorce the next day.
I left the house within the hour and am now renting a place. Just going to work and circling the drain of depression. It's been a few weeks and my lawyer keeps telling me to make contact with my kids and work out a custody arrangement.
I actually did take a few things that could be used for a DNA test- paid for it to be run only to confirm that only my son is mine. My wife didn't care that I did so.
After it all went down, I started getting calls, starting once a day but now several times a day ( actually 8 calls this morning) from my two oldest "kids." Them leaving me messages crying saying they wanted to talk.
But they aren't actually my kids- everything is a lie and I blow up at anybody who tries to convince me otherwise. My son is too young to call, but he was in one of the messages too. I want to pick up the phone and tell them to leave me alone. They do not feel like family to me right now.
AITA?

I can’t say I’m shocked given everything we have learned about SCOTUS’s lack of integrity, but the reality of the decision to undo the previously promised plan to cancel debt has me completely gutted.
Like what can those of us who aren’t gonna be able to make payments work do when it restarts? I thought for a brief glimpse that someone in this fucking country gave a shit.
I feel stupid for thinking it could ever happen
Edit: Today ain’t the fucking day for you “well actually” motherfuckers to be pointing your fingers at those of us who are screwed and laughing or reminding us how dumb we are for ever thinking we could get some relief. We know and you jumping so quick to point it out is not a positive character trait.

Where does the “B” come in, why is this a thing. When people say their name is Bill I assume it is Bill until one day I find out it is actually William. Why do we not call you “Will” then!! It makes no sense. “Will” is the same amount of letters as “Bill” where are you pulling the letter “B” from!?!?
