Hi everyone! I've just spent 3.5 weeks in Italy and used this sub A LOT in prepping for the trip and found the insights on here invaluable. I wanted to share my experiences with you all in the hope that I can help future travellers to Italy!

Overall thoughts It's hot - make sure you stop for drinks regularly!

Be prepared to walk - I think I averaged 15000 steps every day. Italian cities are super walkable and it is the best way to get around.

It feels safe - I never really had an issue with safety. I'm a pretty seasoned traveller and take good precautions. Quite a few hawker types in Rome/Venice but if you're firm and just keep walking they're no trouble.

Make bookings - my hottest tip is book everything in advance. It will save HOURS of queues. We litterly walked straight into every attraction.

Milan

Milan is very walkable and the metro is really easy to navigate too.

Stayed at starhotels echo. This was a great hotel 2 Min to central station. Never felt unsafe. Area south of this seemed quite local and full of really interesting bars and restaurants.

Brera District was great for wandering around. Charming cobbled streets, lots of cafes and restaurants and fairly calm and quiet.

Vertical forest area is worth visiting for a different Italian vibe. Super modern and futuristic and a great green space in the city with lots of beautiful wild flowers.

Base in Sorrento or Naples

Hello lovely people,

I come to you for help regarding my first visit to Italy in September (7-14). I'm confused about choosing a place to stay in either Sorrento or Naples. I have so many questions after reading through a lot of posts here:

I have 6 nights, that I can juggle between Sorrento and Naples. But I want to visit Positano, Amalfi, Capri Island, and Pompei ruins for sure. And, I plan to do a day trip to each of these places.
I want to visit Naples because I want to experience the history (I know the number of days is not enough for this). I also want to take part in a Pizza making class :D and eat the food there. We are vegetarians so that's a deal breaker for choosing a place to stay. Food options should be available.
Accommodation in Naples is cheaper as compared to Sorrento but taking the Campania express for 2 people daily for 3 days at least costs me around €100/day already. But also, I don't want to spend too much time traveling to Sorrento each day and then from Sorrento to elsewhere.
Do you have recommendations for cheap accommodations in Sorrento? I can go for AirBnbs as well.

EDIT: After reading some comments. I am open to spending a few nights in Naples and the rest in Sorrento as well. 4 nights should be enough then in Sorrento for the places I want to visit and including Sorrento itself, is it?

EDIT2: What do you think about staying in Vico Equense or Castellammare di Stabia for the entire duration to get the best of all places and cut travel time a bit?

A few questions about visiting the Amalfi Coast...

Hi everyone!

My girlfriend and I are visiting a few towns across the Amalfi Coast over the span of 2 weeks in July. I have a few questions for anyone who has experience:

We are planning on taking the SITA bus for the following trips. I've heard the busses can be pretty packed but I don't know much else. Will we have issues getting on with suitcases? We're pretty easy going, but are there any tips to make the bussing go smoothly?
- Minori --> Salerno (no luggage)
- Minori --> Atrani (w/ luggage)
- Atrani --> Positano (no luggage)
- Atrani --> Praiano (w/ luggage)
- Praiano --> Sorrento (w/ luggage)
We have a ferry booked to Capri from Amalfi on one of the days for a day trip. We don't have anything booked to do while we're there. Is this one of those day trips where we need to have stuff booked, or could we walk around and find stuff to do? Any recommendations for travelers on a budget?

Advice needed for Florence

Hey I am traveling to Florence next week and would appreciate some advice, our flight lands in Pisa around 10am and I have booked the train from Pisa to Florence at around 8pm.

Just wondering if the tickets are bought online could we get an early train like how it works in the UK or are they very time specific and would likely get a fine, as I am told there is not a whole lot to do in Pisa?

Also would the churches allow cargo shorts, I know a few posts have suggested not to wear shorts, just checking if it just excluding sports shorts mainly?

Ground service strike in July 7th advice?

Flying back from Rome to the US on the 7th and our flight leaves during the times the strike is supposed to be active. Has anyone been recommended to not fly that day or seen anything the that effect? Thanks I’m advance

B-Ticket Issues?

I am trying to book tickets to Uffizi and Accademia on the B-ticket website I accessed from the gallery’s website; but I keep getting “invalid” when I am putting in our birthdates.

For instance, one birthdate is July 17, 1986 I’ve tried putting the birthdate as 07.17.1986 and also thought maybe it’s a European date format? So I put in 17.07.1986

Both are showing errors. I know I’ve been stressed lately and possibly not seeing things straight. But what am I doing wrong?
