The 0-10 rating has been ruined, and can no longer be trusted from the majority of people.

My theory is this: the vast majority of people, when asked to rate out of 10, can't be trusted to because rating to them has been tainted by being linked either subconsciously, unintentionally, or maybe even misguidedly, to the A-F grading system.

In A-F grading, a C = 70% and also counts as "average", while D is 60% and counts as failing for all intents and purposes. This leads people to grade things as 7/10 for "average" things, when in reality 5 is the average place things should land when data is normalized (this is a statistics term where the data is adjusted to fit a normal distribution through sampling, etc). This change in the grade people give completely changes the placement and outcome of every important aspect of the process as well as the perceived value of each grade. For example, while a 5 it's supposed to be average it's instead seen as bad, or similar to the "failing" grade an F carries due to it's 50% on the A-F scale.

It's made it hard to trust 1-10 ratings as you almost need explanation before hand of how the rater intends the results to be interpreted, which defeats the purpose of the scale to begin with, which is simplicity and universal understanding.

People who expect loved ones to pick them up from the airport are assholes

I saw a post where people said if their partner or friend won’t pick them up from the airport it’s a red flag and some even cut them out of their lives. The entitlement is insane.

Most airports are at LEAST 30-45 min (many 60 min) each way without traffic or weather delays

Expecting someone you love to waste potentially 2 hours round trip (maybe more with traffic) shows you don’t value their time. There are various options for people of all budgets - bus, train, airport shuttle, taxi, ride share apps, parking, etc.

And even if you think you’re exempt because you politely ask, you’re putting that person in an awkward position and they’ll probably reluctantly say yes. Just don’t ask.

If they offer, I’ll always say “no thank you, I’ll just take the train” etc. If they still insist, then I’ll only accept if I can give some form of payment (lunch etc) or if I plan to bring them a gift.

But stop expecting it as a right - it’s a privilege!

The more the media insists that Jennifer Lawrence is down to earth, the more suspicious I am that she is not

You haven’t been on the internet in like 10 years without seeing links about JLaw burping or farting or falling down. She recently kissed her costar after eating garlic and tuna accidentally and that was news… She can act however she wants, but this relentless insistence by the media that this is proof she is great, is super try hard. Wouldn’t be surprised if this whole act is just a schtick.

Adele Is A Great Singer With Zero Creativity

Adele can sing her ass off but the quality of her work is not that great. She has a powerful voice but almost all of her songs sound the same. I don't get how that could be praised. She has absolutely no shift in style or will to put herself out there just a little bit. I think what makes an artist a great artist is versatility. I wish her the best but I just think she is overrated

Dipping hotdogs in condiments is superior to putting condiments on top of the hotdog

Here's a lightheated unpopularopinion as we begin our summers. I had a debate with my wife and kids on this yesterday. Needless to say it was unpopular in my household.

This applies to "liquid" condiments such as ketchup, mayo, and mustard. This does not apply when you have chunkier accoutrements such as relish, onions, cheese, etc. This also assumes that you have the condiments on your plate or one or more dedicated personal dipping bowls.

This is essentially applying the nacho + dip or veggies + dip principle to the hotdog, instead of adopting the traditional "hotdog as a sandwich" approach. As such nachos and veggies, dipping your hotdog into the condiment before each bite allows you to get more flavour per bite and increases the condiment to weiner and bun ratio.

It is absolutely fine to do the bare minimum for high school.

I am almost done with "high school" (we call it lycée but it is basically the same thing) and jesus I absolutely regret my mentality when it came to "being a good student". Now this might be bias on my side because I very rarely had to study and the subject matter of each class was mostly already known to me. I dont want this to sound like something that belongs to r/iamverysmart but class was always just really understimulating. I woke up everyday hating my daily routine because school saps so much energy and time. "It's normal, everybody hates school" well maybe that is not normal and should not be the case? Why have we just accepted this? Now I know that not everyone has the privilege of being able to pass without too much effort, but honestly advice from someone who is nearly done with high school: If you can afford it, skip class, dont do your homework, ignore assignements. Nobody gives a shit about your grades anyway. Just pass and you'll be fine. Do the absolute bare minimum "Disciplinary actions" in my country (Luxembourg) are a joke, so instead of torturing yourself with shitty lessons go hit the gym or go for a walk or something.

What I also heard plenty of times is this absolute non-argument of "well you gotta get used to doing things you have to but dont wanna". Yeah no shit Sherlock? I've had jobs before, I do chores and I practice discipline. High school never taught me anything of value and it probably won't teach you anything either.
