Just tried using my iPhone to buy credits and it was $39.99 which I know was high. Went to Audible.com and it was $35.88. The App store monopoly requires them to charge more so Apple gets it's pound of flesh. If you purchase around 6 credits a month like I do this adds up to an extra credit every 3-4 purchases.
Edit: u/3j0hn Gave a good counterpoint below. Credits purchased via Apple/Google app stores do not expire even if you cancel your membership. For those that don't use them frequently it maybe a good long term plan to use the app stores.
