As the title says, I just finished reading two books in less than a week – finishing one of them in a single day. I had absolutely no intention of doing so. As an adult, I had never finished a book that I’d started recreationally. Even as a child/teen, I can’t really remember ever enjoying reading books, so the only books I’d read were those that were assigned to me – if I’d even read those.

This past Thursday I was sitting around without much to do. I was watching TV and looked over to a bookshelf we have standing beside it. I saw a copy of Peter Pan by JM Barrie sitting there. I had always wanted to read it because I had heard that it was much different than the Disney telling of the story (as most of the originals are) and wanted to know what those differences were. So, I picked it up and read the first chapter.

I couldn’t put it down. For the first time in a very very long time I had actually been engrossed in a book. When I wasn’t reading it, I was thinking about it. I don’t know what it was, but I was hooked (nice). I finished reading it in three days and when I was done I looked at the back cover and saw “Ages: 8 -14” and I couldn’t help but laugh.

Of course, once I was finished I looked up different takes and reviews of the book on Reddit because it was still on the mind – I wanted to see what other people thought of it. It was during this time that kept seeing people suggesting and recommending Lost Boy by Christina Henry. Again, I still wasn’t quite ready to be done with the characters, the location, or maybe even reading, so I went out that night and bought a copy.

The next morning, I read the first page and, again, I just couldn’t stop. I’d finish a chapter intending to be done for the day, but I’d think to myself, “just one more.” This mindset continued until, many hours later, I was finished. I don’t think I had even fully realized that I had read the whole thing in one day. There were multiple sessions throughout the day, but similar to Peter Pan, when I wasn’t reading, I wanted to be. I needed to know what happened next.

I always thought that I didn’t like reading. I guess I just didn’t like what I was reading.
Tl;dr:
I, an adult who hasn’t finished a book or read for fun in many years, finished both Peter Pan and Lost Boy over the course of 4 days. I had an absolute blast.
