Myanmar army ‘torches’ homes in Shan state
Myanmar's leaders have refused to comment on new allegations that the army is killing people in the eastern Shan state.
The ruling party has been trying to push peace deals to end a series of long-running conflicts.
Villagers have shown Al Jazeera where their homes were torched.
Al Jazeera's Wayne Hay reports.

A PEACEFUL PLACE IN MYANMAR | SHAN STATE | AWAY FROM THE CITY
I visited to Taunggyi and Pindaya in Shan State on my Christmas holidays. I want to share you the beauty of the nature. If you are interested in travelling to Shan State, there are also direct flights from Yangon to Heho which take about an hour. Then you can go to Taunggyi by car which takes about 45 minutes and to Pindaya about 50 minutes. That way is more time saving.

Hiking Myanmar's Northern Shan State - Palaung & Shan Villages
Hiking off the beaten path with Myanmar Adventure Outfitters (MAO) up a mountain to remote Palaung villages and down the valley to Shan villages, surrounded by rice paddy fields.
Northern Shan State (near the town of Lashio) is seldom visited by tourists, but is a great way to authentically see how some of Myanmar's ethnic groups live. We also had a homestay in a Shan village, which was back to basics.
This was Day 1 of a 3-day outdoor trip with Myanmar Adventure Outfitters (MAO) at the end of December 2018.

Shan State Travel Guide
Travel video about destination Shan State in Myanmar.
North of Burma’s central plains is the exotic and fascinating Shan State, a beautiful landscape in South East Asia located on the eastern side ofMyanmar. Once 40 Shan monarchs ruled there but they lived in hostile times as Burmese kings and Chinese warlords fought against them to gain control of their fertile land.We begin our journey at Inle Lake. The magical beauty of this body of water has attracted and fascinated people since time immemorial and this unique lake is home to the Intha people. The next leg of the journey leads to a far more tranquil section of the lake that features floating gardens that are around a hundred metres long and two metres wide and consist of a densely interwoven carpet of water hyancinths. Ongoing fighting, abuses in Myanmar's northern Shan State
In Myanmar's northern Shan State, ethnic armed groups have been fighting the Myanmar military for more autonomy for the past 50 years.
Amnesty International says both sides are guilty of abuses in the ongoing fighting, which has continued since the failure of a nationwide ceasefire which was signed four years ago.
That's an issue that will dog its de facto head Aung San Suu Kyi as she starts campaigning for next year's election.

Path to Freedom of Shan State - Part 1 of 9 Establishment of Shan State
The Shan State in North-eastern Burma is horribly oppressed under the violent Myanmar military junta. In reaction, the Shan people have formed the SSA, or Shan State Army to defend themselves against some truly despicable acts. This hour long documentary charts the history and plight of a wonderful Shan people and culture. I highly recommend watching this all the way through.
I cannot take credit for this work as I am not the filmmaker who created this. I am unsure who to credit since this was copied off of a VCD I brought back from the border area of Northern Thailand. Please excuse the digital glitches, this seems to have been passed thorough many iterations before being uploaded.

Mandalay, ‘The City of Art’, is located in the centre of Shan State. It was founded in 1857 and up until the British conquered it in 1885, it was the capital of the kingdom of Burma. The Mahamuni Pagoda is the centre of worship and is also where the Mahamuni Buddha is kept, the country’s most highly worshipped Buddha statue. Around 12 kilometres beyond Hsipaw is the legendary Bagyo Pagoda. Surrounded by a magnificent wall, it is thought that the sanctuary is more than 700 years old. An important festival takes place each year around Tabaung, the time of the full moon in February and March, and is the highlight of the town’s cultural calendar. The Shan people in the north of Myanmar have most certainly retained their cultural heritage and Shan State is an exotic combination of both nature and culture and a land of beauty and joie de vivre!
