India: United We Stand

I currently reside in EU, while my sister lives in India. Although both of us grew up abroad, she chose to pursue her higher education in India, whereas I decided to go abroad again. Currently, I am on a break with plenty of free time, so my sister assigned me the task of finding an apartment for her. She needs a place to stay in this new city for her internship, so I have been searching for a suitable apartment in a good neighborhood or complex for approximately six months. During my search, I had conversations with a few landlords. Initially, things were going well, and one landlord even mentioned that they prefer renting to Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) over locals because, according to them, locals tend to be untidy, and so on. However, when this particular landlord asked about my caste and I mentioned that I am Muslim, he immediately declined, stating that he does not rent to females. Although I suspect the real reason is our Muslim background, there have been a few more instances with other landlords. It has been about a month or two since all this occurred, and I can recall this specific incident vividly. Am I overthinking the situation or is there something more to it?

By the way, after experiencing a great deal of stress, my sister finally managed to secure an apartment. We paid the entire six months' rent upfront in case anyone was curious.
