For some context to the story: I started a college course and everyone thought I was christian, that didn't bother me, but when I asked I would make it clear I was buddhist. I asked them why they thought I was christian, turns out it was because of my hair and skin colour. I'm white with blonde hair. I know a lot of people have prejudice about white girls being buddhist, believing that its for show, but again, that didn't really bother me as I just moved on with my life despite it. But I became friends with those same people, who are all lovely, but they still don't view it as my religion. I want to learn about people and how to treat people, so I started exploring other religions to know what they believe and how to understand a bit how they think, but my friends and parents are convinced that I'm converting to all these different religions. The most recent one is Islam. I started learning about it and making friends and going to the mosque, and when I went shopping to buy a dress for eid my friend asked me to teach her about "my religion". Me thinking she was talking about buddhism starting explaining (to the best of my ability) the foundation of theravada buddhism, and she went correct me and said she wanted to learn about Islam. I explained what I knew, and said if you want to learn about it, it would be best to speak to a Muslim. She was confused, thinking I was a Muslim, despite the fact I mention Buddhism a fair few times. I messaged her later, clarifying that I'm just learning about people and that I'm not converting to anything and I'm still a buddhist, and she thanked me for letting her know. I just don't know whether its justified to be a little fustrated at the fact people assume that I am Buddhist for superficial reasons because I'm a white girl. I feel as if my friends don't understand that Buddhism is an actual religion with it's own teachings and beliefs, it feels like they're waiting for me to convert to my "true" religion. Any thoughts? Sorry for the rant
