What are some places on your travel bucket list that are realistically very hard or impossible to visit?

Question

Here are a few of mine:

Sam Ford Sound, Baffin, Canada - also known as the "Yosemite of the North". Very remote and expensive (prices can easily run north of $20k to visit). Same thing for Mount Thor.
Yemen: Arabia as close as it gets to the fairytales, but unfortunately caught in a war/humanitarian disaster and very unsafe for Westerners.
Tibesti/Ennedi mountains, Chad, and Ahaggar mountains, Algeria. Majestic mountain ranges in the Sahara that are in dangerous, lawless areas.
Somalia: very interesting culture, but anarchistic and lawless, too dangerous to even consider visiting.
Remote areas in New Guinea (Indonesia and Papua-New Guinea): an island with fauna as otherworldly as it gets on Earth, but unfortunately not developed for any form of tourism at all.
Kerguélen islands: it's like another Iceland or Faroe, but with petrified forests and in the Indian Ocean near the Antarctic Circle. Apart from Antarctica, probably the most isolated area in the world, in Eastern Island you've at least still got people living there.
Kamchatka, Russia. Siberia with a touch of Japan, but not developed at all either.
Antarctica, literally everywhere except the Peninsula. Too remote.
Mali, especially the Dogon region with the prehistoric rock houses

Does anybody else sometimes think about how without a smartphone it would be pretty much impossible to travel the way we travel?

I mean, it still would be possible, but you save so much time.

Also, a shout out to Google Maps. It's insane how convenient it is. Finding the quickest route from A to B, I don't need to worry, I just type destination it tells me exactly where to go. Otherwise, I would not be able to find my way to the hotel because I would always get lost.

Finding places to eat, read reviews, it's all there. Buying tickets for transportation, checking in at the airport. Listening to music when chilling, reading, and everything else a phone can do, lol.

EDIT: I was focusing only on the positives when making my post, but after reading all the responses y'all made me realise that era without phones sounds way more interesting. 🥲

For me its Japan. I have been there 4x and still want to go few more times.

It's been the most picture perfect country i have traveled to. Love the traditional culture and food. Also customer service/hospitality is top class.

The Case Against Travel - anyone read this Atlantic article?

I came across this article today and thought I’d share in case it sparks an interesting discussion amongst us nomads.

I’m unsure how directly it applies to nomads, but either way it definitely has given me a few things to think about. If you read it let me know what you think.

Here’s a quote from the article to give you an idea:

‘Tourism is marked by its locomotive character. “I went to France.” O.K., but what did you do there? “I went to the Louvre.” O.K., but what did you do there? “I went to see the ‘Mona Lisa.’ ” That is, before quickly moving on: apparently, many people spend just fifteen seconds looking at the “Mona Lisa.” It’s locomotion all the way down’

The main issue with solo travel

I’ve been solo travelling on and off for about 5 years and I’m currently in Cambodia. The main issue I’ve found is having no one to help me out with covering my back with sun cream! Any tips? I’m too pale for my own good 😂

Edit: to answer a few repeat comments - I can’t ask someone else, unfortunately I’m too English and repressed for that - plus my own bullshit means I don’t feel too comfortable having a stranger touch me. I think I’m gonna get a spray sunscreen asap and maybe a sponge and a stick like some people are suggesting! This was mostly a post to get some advice and laugh at my terrible sun burn and my lack of prep for the sun. Remember your suncream guys!

Solo travel because nobody will go with you

Hey I was just wondering how many people out there choose to primarily solo travel because they can't find people that want to travel?

I'm a 31M Canadian and have a really hard time finding people to travel with outside of resorts which I mostly find boring now. I've done 3 solo trips and am about to book my 4th in the next few weeks after PTO is approved, and I have one 2 week trip booked with a friend.

I have a really hard time finding like minded people, and would really rather find people to travel and explore with (Even for just part of the trip) but the idea of taking a 10 hour flight anywhere turns off a lot of my friends and family, so I just end up going solo.

anyone else solo travel because of this or similar reasons? I don't mind it but like I said, I would prefer to have a person or two with me while I'm out there to share some memories with.

Edit: I didn't think this would get that much traction but its really cool to see the reactions. Still taking some time to read through it all!

For some reason I thought that everyone on here was the "into the wild" type of solo traveler and that I was the oddball for actually wanting company while I travel. I've only been on a handful of trips but the experiences shared here are so validating of some of the "not so awesome" experiences that I've had so far.

Am I the only one who does not like travel youtubers at all?

Their thumbnails and titles have all become a cliché. It's all the same. "Is this Saudi Arabia????", "is this Latvia?", "I did not expect this!!!". "SHOCKING first experience!", "our first time in Brunei (we did not like it)", etc etc. What did you expect? And why should we care about what you expected? Plus the thumbnail is almost always a face with the mouth open.
"This is my 70th country!" Who cares? This is the 150th city I have visited, why not the 28th museum or zoo?
75% of the video is the vlogger brushing her/his teeth, or saying "wooow" or "waa that is the most beautiful beach ever!! Also mandatory "wooow the locals here are so friendly guys!!!"
Many of them have a drone shot that always comes with a modern millennial music. When I travel to a place, that is not the view that I will see, so I am not interested.
Another variety is those who just regurgitates whatever they just read or heard in 5 to 10 minutes. Come on, if I want to know about the history of the place, I will read an encyclopaedia, not listen to some obscure vloggers. Plus I like how some of them only spent like 5 days in the country, and then acted like they are the authority for information concerning that country.
There are also vloggers who are conventionally attractive, so they always pose and show their body. When the vlogger is a handsome young man, he often uses his attractive girlfriend in bikini as a clickbait.
Not to mention that many of them seem to be fake and are outright "wannabes". Apparently some of them would sell courses for hundreds of dollars so that "you guys can have a life of travel like me!!", "day one or one day, you decide!!"
