I found an HP Omen 16 open box at Best Buy for $841. How good is this deal? I found an HP Omen 16 open box at Best Buy for $841. How good is this deal?
Purchasing Help

I’m going to college in a few weeks so I’m looking for a good engineering laptop. A Best Buy worker pointed me in the direction of this HP Omen 16 for $841 Open box ($1,300 new)

Specs: •13th gen intel i7 •Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 •16gb DDR4 memory •1 TB SSD

My dad is skeptical of this laptop because it is open box. To me it seems like this is the deal of a lifetime. Am I right? (Laptop was on last years display. It was not a returned laptop)

Which laptop brand is more durable: Acer Nitro V or Lenovo LOQ?

I've had bad luck with my last three HP Pavilions, with motherboard issues each time before hitting the three-year mark. Now, I'm considering the Acer Nitro V or Lenovo LOQ (2023-2024 models), which are highly comparable in specs and cost.

What I value most is the ability to upgrade my laptop and not be forced to replace it due to hardware failure. Given this, which brand would you recommend for better durability, or am I looking at the wrong products if I expect a lifespan of 4+ years?

General Questions

Looking at a. Getting a cheap under 1k gaming laptop that can run most things happily doesn’t need to be ultra settings etc just decent and solid fps.

I mainly play games like Honkai star rail and genshin impact but would like to play the odd AAA title (or old ones like tomb raider) every now and then. Is this spec okay for that?

MSI Cyborg 15 15.6" Gaming Laptop - Intel® Core™ i5, RTX 2050, 512 GB SSD 16gb Ram.

Laptop recommendation Laptop recommendation

After researching for a while, I still cannot decide between this two laptop option. They have good looks, good review and strong gaming experience. I play Total Warhammer and do video editing quite a lot but this one is supposed to be my carrying-around-all-day office laptop too.
Lenovo Legion 5 Y7000 2024 i7 14650HX/ RTX 4060 8GB
Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 2023 r7 7745HX/ RTX 4060 8GB
Both have 16GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, 2k screen. I have run through some benchmark pages to compare these two CPU but have mixed thoughts about them since Legion 5 Pro is supposed to be at a better tier product from Lenovo compared to the Y7000 release 6/2024.
Can another give opinion about this? Thank you.

Macbook Air M2 or Alienware X14 R1 for a economics student

Hi, I got a mac a few months ago to replace my old hp laptop. The experience with MacOs has been seamlessly since I’ve got the entire apple ecosystem. The downside is that my mac only got an 8 gb ram, and I need to run some windows programs through parallels (power BI, excel VBA, etc.). I really like the battery life of my mac and wouldn’t like to go back to a 3-4 hour battery life, although that is not a deal-breaking point. I also miss doing some light gaming (the sims and gta V).

I’ve been offered an Alienware X14 R1 for $800. It’s almost brand new, but the usb-a port doesn’t work. That same friend sold me the mac for the same price. The offer is tempting since I wouldn’t have to sell my mac and waste time (there’s no many ppl who can afford them where I live).

I’m having second thoughts about the X14 R1 since I’ve read horrible things about the battery life, motherboard failure and screen failure. I had a bad experience due to windows 11 with HP after 4 years. Getting another laptop isn’t an option since importing tech is really expensive in my country and I don’t have another trusted seller. I also need a laptop rn, so buying one in the U.S. isn’t preferable. My hopes are that this laptop can get me through school, so It should last 3+ years.

My questions are: How has your long-term experience been with the X14 R1? Is motherboard failure really frequent? Does it overheat a lot while doing light browsing or using office programs? Is screen failure a big problem? How is the battery life?

Hello,

I'm looking to get a new gaming laptop as my MSI is on it's last leg. I want to make sure that I get a good laptop that can easily run the games that I play and has a lot of storage for my never-ending Steam library. The games that I play the most are Valorant, Sims, Cities Skylines, and Dead by Daylight, but I want a computer that can play Ark and Doom without becoming an actual stovetop. Are these good computers/brands? I don't know a lot about computers, I just play them lol. I'm worried about spending a pretty penny and getting something that ends up being a piece of junk. Thank you!

my college needs me to buy a laptop to do all my work on, which will be 3D modeling, animation, programming, and game development. right now im stuck between the ROG strix g18 and the Alienware R2 M16. The biggest difference I think is the Alienware has an Ultra 9 processor and the Strix has an i9-14900. Both have a RTX 4070. Which would be better for all my 3D rendering and game development stuff?
