He must have thought that he had a majority of the government on his side prior to the dissolve attempt. Otherwise, why try it. Anyways, it seems that he's getting uber fooked.

He is utterly fucked. He was a tool used by Peru Libre (then biggest leftist party), then disregarded as a traitor for attempting to do something with his government rather than clashing with Congress for nothing at all, ended up impeached by that same party and others with an utter majority of over 90% congress, non affiliated groups and his loyalists who were still being paid by the state organized protests, then Peru Libre and other parties jumped in seeking their own demands, nothing was achieved.
Nowadays protesters are beginning to blockade one another at the region which borders Bolivia (Puno) because they accuse one another of not having done enough.
Fact is, Peru has always lacked police officers, we still do, it is fairly easy to overwhelm them during protests as is evidence in the past 20 years, these protests were never strong enough across the country, considerably weaker than the ones we had in 2020.

Because he had the people on his side, and still does.

Every day in prison makes him more popular.

If they don't kill him, he will win.

Two days after flatly denying being the leader of a criminal organization entrenched in the presidential palace during his tenure, Pedro Castillo formally faces a second 36-month term in preventive detention.

In December, Castillo was slapped with 18 months of preventive detention for the alleged crime of rebellion after his failed self-coup and attempt to install an emergency government.

As for the flight risk, the judge noted that Castillo's family is no longer in Peru and that it would be easy for him to leave the country, alluding to the fact that Castillo was arrested on December 7 when he was on his way to the Mexican Embassy to seek asylum.
