8bitDO Pro 2 on Linux

Hi so this is post is more of an update to my previous question which I asked here regarding whether to get a Dualshock 4 or a Dualsense (Link: here)

When searching I also came across 8bitDo's Pro 2 which seems like that it also has Gyro enabled which can be accessed via the Switch mode

When I searched online, many of the posts are referencing a bug in hid-nintendo on Linux 5.16 kernel which doesnt bind third party controllers to the Linux machine.

Is this bug fixed in the latest kernel and/or are there any weird quirks which still needs to be ironed out?

Do note that Gyro is very important to me so I am not looking forward to get an Xbox controller

Edit: A few of my uses include using the gyro+flick stick combo for FPS games and Nintendo Switch emulation

Is hardware encoding supported with either AMD or NVIDIA GPUs? Has discord added support? What applications can be used for this purpose?

Some Steam games not launching on Nobara

Hi,

I've installed Nobara on my system (Ryzen 5600 and RTX 3060 Ti). The linux system is installed on an external SSD Drive, formatted in ext4, in dual boot with my Windows 11 installation.

I can't launch Grim Dawn from Steam. The game is marked as launched on Steam, but I don't see any window. I've tried various versions of Proton without luck

I've tried another game and it works perfectly (Turbo Golf Racing).

All games are installed from Linux on the ext4 partition, I don't use the ntfs windows drive.

Any idea how to fix it ?

Returning to old Steam UI

For anyone that uses a slow computer, be it low-budget laptops, arm devices, or retro lovers. Or for people that liked the older UI.

My problem

The new Steam UI is using A LOT of resources for me. I use XFCE, but before I used LXDE... changed because Steam broke almost every button that I could press.

For the comparison, 8 application instances and almost 20 tabs on Firefox opened used 40-65% of CPU (3 of them were Twitch instances with 720p each). When I open Steam alone it lags and CPU raises to 50% or more, without hardware acceleration and without building shaders.

How I solved

Knowing that, all I wanted to do was to return to the old UI. And append -vgui flag (Valve's proprietary Graphical User Interface) worked. So it would be:

steam -vgui

In many DEs you can select the Steam launcher with right-click and editing the properties.

From terminal, you should go to $HOME/.local/share/applications/ and edit your steam instance. The command is located under the Exec= line.
