What’s New

Version 22.6.1

WordPress.com plans are coming to the Jetpack app. Get the plan that’s right for your publishing needs and manage it in the same place you write all your best words.

There’s a shiny new “Personalize Home Tab” button at the bottom of your site dashboard where you can customize your visible dashboard cards. (Want to hide the cards you don’t need? Just use the “More” menu.)

We removed a bug in devices running iOS 16 or later, where typing in the block editor while dictating caused the dictated text to be lost. There’s also a lock icon for disabled cells in the editor so you know when they aren’t in use.

On the “Search domains” screen, you’ll now see an error message if you choose a default domain that isn’t supported by your site. No more forever-spinning progress wheel.

Finally, we updated the placeholder text for VideoPress videos that don’t belong to your site. (Hopefully they don’t feel left out.)

I use this

I use this and don’t see much difference overall from the Wordpress App but I don’t expect much either maybe, I write my blog. Thanks for that.

I have a suggestion, it would be great to be able to share a draft by link. Kind of like Google Docs. I mean I use that now before I bring it into Jetpack, if I am looking for input or ideas. Just a thought. Thanks for the app.

What is this?

So the WordPress app no longer supports WordPress? “To do WordPress use the Jetpack app!” Well, then why is it called Jetpack and not WordPress? I’m going to give this a one star review, even though I have yet to really use it. I may return and give it a five star review who knows, but the way this transition has been handled is incredibly fishy and I don’t trust it one bit. Why the sleight of hand? Sounds like WordPress was bought out by some third-party that probably owns many other things and once you transfer your information and content over it now become subject to some other contract of ownership or something? Is this someway to mine all that personal data and sell it? Is this some sort of criminal enterprise that will eventually try to hack into my system? I have no idea what this is and I don’t appreciate a mountain of research just to decide whether or not I feel transferring things over.

Why not just stay a part of Wordpress?

I’m not sure why Jetpack felt the need to make an app independent of Wordpress and force Wordpress users to swap to a secondary app for things that are available within Wordpress and are tied directly to Wordpress. Jetpack exists within the Wordpress ecosystem, there’s no reason for it to exist independently. I use Jetpack for Wordpress site stats, why would I want Jetpack to be independent of Wordpress? I hate having to have two apps to run my sites, especially since I can’t seem to get into the Jetpack app with my Wordpress credentials. This whole thing makes zero sense and it might be time to find a new plug in to handle my stats on Wordpress. I’m sure there are others that know who and what made them what they are and aren’t trying to make the user experience unbearable.
