I got into the board gaming hobby in the last few months and have been having lots of fun with it. As someone interested in WWI and WWII history games like Undaunted, Quartermaster General, and Memoir '44 naturally caught my eye.

I had put off purchasing M'44 for a while because the Commands and Colors system it uses seems to be pretty divisive and I was unsure if I would like it. I found out it was on Board Game Arena, and gave it a shot this weekend. I was HOOKED. I liked it so much that I bought the core game and 3 theater expansions and plan to get some of the other content in the future as well. There are tons of scenarios, so the replayability is quite good for those that enjoy it. Even if you aren't drawn in by the theme, it is a fun strategy game in its own right (and there are many other games that use the Commands and Colors system).

The game is really simple to learn (especially with the wonderful BGA tutorial) so you get out of learning and into strategizing pretty quickly. Some people don't like the randomness of the command cards and dice rolls, but I think it makes for a very interesting decision space where one has to plan for and deal with the unexpected. I find this element exciting and think it would be less fun as a purely deterministic game. Although randomness is a central part of the game mechanic, skill plays a big part. As a new player, I have been getting my butt kicked by those with more experience.

TL:DR - It's a fun game I like a lot. Players are active and abundant on Board Game Arena, so it is cheap and easy to give it a try.
