Counting down to the beginning of the season I'm going to attempt to feature one player per day for the last 99 matching their jersey number to the days left until kick off. The players will be random. Use this thread to celebrate and Talk About Some GuysTM
Alan Faneca grew up in Louisiana before moving to the Houston metro area for high school. He attended Lamar Consolidated High School and lettered in track and football. After high school attended LSU from 1994-1997.
After redshirting in '94, he burst onto the SEC stage and was named SEC freshman of the year by the Knoxville News Sentinel. In 1996 he continued his strong play and was named a second team All-American. In his senior year of 1997 he continued to elevate his play and was recognized as a consensus first-team All-American and was a finalist for the Outland Trophy.
He started his final 36 games at LSU tallying 210 pancake blocks and allow only a single sack his senior year.
Faneca was drafted with pick 26 of the NFL draft in 1998 and went onto play for the Steelers, Jets and Cardinals. He was a 9x Pro-Bowler, 6x First-Team All-Pro, 2x Second-Team All-Pro and a Super Bowl Champion.
He retired in 2011 and worked to quickly reshape his body from his 316 lb playing weight. He cut over 100 lbs in two years and started a running regiment which culminated in his participation in the New Orleans Rock 'n Roll marathon in 2014 - finishing in under 4 hours.
On February 6, 2021 he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
