Bitcoin is the currency of the Internet: a distributed, worldwide, decentralized digital money. Unlike traditional currencies such as dollars, bitcoins are issued and managed without any central authority whatsoever: there is no government, company, or bank in charge of Bitcoin. As such, it is more resistant to wild inflation and corrupt banks. With Bitcoin, you can be your own bank.

BlackRock, Fidelity Management, and Big US Banks like Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, etc are buying crypto at such low levels. These banks are buying into MicroStrategy stock, with MSTR the largest holder of Bitcoin worth some $3+ billion in BTC and BlackRock is rumored going to file for a Bitcoin ETF application in partnership with Coinbase, Coinbase who is hated by SEC!. And Standard Chartered Bank has predicted Bitcoin to hit $100K in 2024.

All of this is taking place while the SEC! attacks major exchanges like Binance and Coinbase and banks play down the legitimacy of Bitcoin to dismiss it as a phoney economy while simultaneously buying it in masse.

and in Hongkong, Banking regulators are reportedly exerting pressure on banks such as HSBC, Standard Chartered, and Bank of China to engage with crypto clients. They are inviting exchanges to set up their base in Hongkong, lawmakers asked Coinbase to set up their despite ongoing legal action.

Are they all making fool out of Retail?

Hi everyone! Basically, the title. I know it's kind of off-topic and that you all are probably black belts in crypto. However, I thought that an extra warning wouldn't hurt anyone :)

As many of you know, I am part of the customer support team at Ankr and might have assisted support to some of you via helpdesk.ankr.com. Usually, the job is quite satisfactory as we get to help people but having to confirm or explain to users that their hard-earned crypto is gone can be heartbreaking, and sometimes, we have to do this on a daily basis. Therefore, I would like to present the main types of scams that people fall into and end up losing their cryptocurrency:

  • Fake Airdrops: Scammers create deceptive campaigns offering free tokens but never delivering them, tricking participants into sharing personal information, including private keys or connecting wallets to scam dapps, or sending cryptocurrency.

  • Phishing Attacks: Scammers use fake websites or emails that resemble legitimate platforms to trick users into revealing their login credentials or private keys, allowing them to steal funds.

  • Impersonation: Scammers pretend to be well-known figures, organizations, or admins using fake social media accounts to deceive individuals into sharing personal information, including private keys or connecting wallets to scam dapps, or sending cryptocurrency.

  • Fake Sales/Pre-sales: Scammers create fraudulent ICOs or token sales, promising investment opportunities in projects. Victims send funds but receive worthless tokens or nothing in return.

Some crucial security measures to help protect your crypto:

  • Be wary of phishing attempts: Beware of suspicious emails, (direct) messages, or websites that imitate legitimate platforms. Always verify the authenticity of the source before entering your login credentials or sharing sensitive information, or better, just don't share them when you don't recognize the link.

  • Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Enable 2FA wherever possible to add an extra layer of security. This ensures that even if your password is compromised, unauthorized access can be prevented.

  • Exercise caution with wallets, dApps, and Apps: Only download wallets or mobile apps from official and reputable sources. Be cautious of fake or malicious applications that aim to steal your private keys or login credentials.

  • Store Cryptocurrency Offline: Consider using hardware wallets or paper wallets to store your cryptocurrency securely. Offline storage minimizes the risk of being compromised by online threats.

    • I personally hold bigger amounts of crypto in my hardware wallet but still have a Metamask wallet with smaller amounts for "daily use," of course, using ankr's RPCs.

If you ever spot any suspicious activity in the sub or have security concerns, please reach out to us! Let's create a secure environment for everyone.

Stay safe and secure!

---------

Edit: Of course, if you have any extra tips to prevent scams or know some other types of scams that weren't covered in the post, let us know as well! If you would like to share your story, you are also more than welcome to do so
