We Pride March for Macragge!

Context, after getting their ass kicked and their leader killed the warband Solomon is in appoints him as Harrowmaster and they call together all the other alpha legion warbands in the segmentum to met at their secret space hulk base. One of them is the penitent sons whose faces are described as:

That voice did not belong to Qope Halver. Solomon turned to see a trio of legionnaires behind them, having paused just before they got so close that their unannounced presence might have constituted a threat. Two of them, including the one in front, were very similar facially, with the bald heads and olive skin tones so common within the Legion as a whole. The other had skin a couple of shades darker, and although the sides of his skull were shaved, he wore a single braid of hair down the centre of his scalp. Most notably, to Solomon’s eyes, the heads of all three were marked with multiple small scabs, as if each had recently gone head first through a pane of glass.”

They do this on purpose by the way.

Anyway here’s the roasting:

‘What’s that about?’ Halver asked quietly, as the Penitent Sons passed out of earshot again, so far as could be reckoned.

Solomon’s lip twitched. ‘Loyalists, or so they proclaim. They wear barbs inside their helms as penance for the crimes our Legion has committed against the Emperor’s vision.’

Halver screwed his face up, clearly trying to come to terms with that explanation. ‘Then what in the name of all the dead stars are they doing here?’

‘Looking for another excuse to punish themselves, is my guess,’ Solomon said. ‘They have no hesitation in attacking the Imperium, or in supporting others to do so. They just pretend to be remorseful about it afterwards.’ He thought again of the guilt his daemon had sensed. ‘Perhaps they genuinely are, in a way, but it seems they desire that feeling as much as they abhor it.’

‘If you lead us down a path like that,’ Halver said flatly, ‘I will kill you myself.’

‘If I led us down a path like that,’ Solomon said, turning his head to look at him, ‘I would probably enjoy it.”
