There was a car with a VGK sticker in front of me and my wife at a Starbucks drive-through so I yelled to them Go Vegas! Turns out it was Alec Martinez’s parents. They were very kind, and paid for our $20 order. They drove off before I could say thank you. It’s silly, but it made my day.

Does anyone get bothered by the fact Martinez is still playing at a decently high level. Like the dude did nothing wrong but every time I hear his name for Vegas I’m like bud please just retire so I don’t have to deal with you anymore

So I think we can all agree Alec Martinez is an 11/10 drop dead gorgeous hunk who we all wish we could spend a romantic cabin in the woods getaway with for a weekend or month.
But did you know that Martinez, primarily a defensive specialist is 18th in NHL scoring by a defenseman? He's outscored known and praised offensive defensemen like Thomas Chabot, Torey Krug, Brent Burns, Charlie McAvoy, Miro Heiskanen, Seth Jones, Ivan Provorov, and Keith Yandle.
And he also leads the league in blocked shots. By a lot. At the time of this post he has 168 blocked shots. The next best number is Adam Larsson's 125.
Before the playoffs start wanted to say something in appreciation of this smoking hot stud and one of the best pickups this team has made in its short history.
I may be crazy, but bear with me here.
First, the vitals: 35-year-old left defenseman for Vegas, 1 year left on his contract, 5.25M AAV, possibly the greatest shot blocker in history, Kings legend.
Obviously, Vegas wouldn't trade Marty directly to us. They're going for it, and he's the kind of player you want in the playoffs. This was inspired by a video about potential landing spots for Patrick Kane. In the Vegas trade scenario, Martinez went back to Chicago to make the money work. If that were to somehow happen, Chicago may look to flip Martinez. If Chicago were to retain some salary, we might be able to to make it work.
Why do we want Martinez? We've obviously been looking for help on the left side of our defense. Let's say the Chychrun trade doesn't happen, and we choose not to go for the likes of Gavrikov, Edmunson, etc. If he were to be first traded to a non-contending team, he could be a solution there. I see him playing 3rd pair with Durzi, and Edler/Walker/Bjornfot playing 2nd with Roy. Martinez could feature strongly on the PK. Not gonna provide much offense, but our biggest priority is clearly keeping the puck out of our net.
And of course, there are sentimental reasons. I just watched a highlight video that included his Stanley Cup winning goal; I still think that's the best celly in hockey history. And he's a real gritty, inspiring player from the height of the Kings power. Who knows, maybe playing with him sparks a resurgence of some sort for Quick? Being a beer league goalie, it really impacts you if you're missing your favorite defensive defenseman.
To play devil's advocate (not New Jersey Devils' advocate), he's older, has an extensive injury history, would be a pretty high cap hit even with salary retention, and won't really provide much offense.
Would be glad to hear your thoughts!

Where the fuck is he? No updates for the past month. I want to trade him but I’m scared he’s coming back soon. Vegas fans got any inside news?

Martinez is doing his best goalie impression and is currently the league leader in blocks with 51 in 11 games for an average of 4.6 blocks/game.
