Posts about F9
I finally saw F9 the other day. I hated it. Thought it was just too over the top and tried to hard to be meta (Roman and his invincibility and them literally going into space which Reddit has joked about since Fast and Furious 6). I hate Dom's brother plot line too.
The parts of the movie I enjoyed the most were the flashbacks to 1989/1991. I liked Vinnie Bennett as young Dom. I wouldn't mind there being a prequel that continues right after the race with Jake and how Dom becomes the Dom we see in The Fast and the Furious.
The movie would be about how Jake was raising Mia while Dom was in the slammer but Dom inherits both the Torretto Garage and the Bodega. As Jake mentioned in F9, Dom's dad was in a ton of debt. Both shops are struggling and he owes thousands on loans/credit/tool debt/etc. Also he's behind on the house mortgage. He struggles to make ends meet but is free when he street races. While he makes extra cash street racing, it's still not enough. He does want to lose his and Mia's house. So he gets involved in pulling off heists.
Maybe at first pulling off a few liquor store jobs and doing wheel man work. Then moving to electronic heists and eventually the truck jackings.
The movie should show how him and Vince got involved, how he meet Leon and later Jesse/Jesse's dad. It should in 2001, with Brian (played from back of the head view by Paul Walker's brother) walking into the bodega to ask what is good. Mia (younger actress) quips not the Tuna. Brian orders the Tuna and the film ends.
I would want the film (or miniseries) to have more of an "Animal Kingdom" inspired tone. Be a little darker and almost nihilistic. Dom struggles and struggles hard. He wins in racing but is struggling to make ends meet in the other areas of his life. Also him and Mia have a rocky relationship for a while, with her being a teenager that wants out and Dom not sure of how to provide for her a better life. Also I think one of the early jobs/heists they pull involves Jesse's dad getting arrested and him ending up in prison (armed robbery/maybe a manslaughter charge).
I would want the first few years of the series (1991-1997) to feature more of the 90s Pro Street Muscle Cars (basically how the original Charger looks in 2001. Superchargers sticking out of the hood, stock suspension and big almost unnecessary drag tires). Were Dom was a large part of that scene for most of the 90s.
As he begins doing more jobs in the late 90s he needs to launder his money and does it through his garage. He also needs to make his garage successful, so he gets more involved in the growing Import scene. In the later episodes (or scenes) we see him build his RX7 as the import scene takes off around 97-98ish. Also we scene his rivalry with Hector form around this time as well as Johnny Tran.
I would love it if the show could incorporate an even similar to the Hot Rod Magazine Fastest Street Car shootout events that were popular in the early to mid 90s. As well as the NOPI Import Drags (which grew in size from 2001-2007 thanks to the Fast and Furious). Technically Race Wars was based off of NOPI right down to the small rave scene while saw during one of the transitions. So it could be an early Race Wars around 1998 or so.
Also speaking of Animal Kingdom. We saw Finn Cole as a young Jake in F9. Maybe the guys who play Craig and Deran could be a young Vince and Leon.
In the first several episodes Dom should drive cars like a 1970 Pontiac GT0, a 1967 Camaro SS and a 1968 Plymouth Roadrunner. While Letty has her 1970 Plymouth Cuda that she talks about in a Flashback. The cars should be a little gaudy with flame paint jobs and candy color paint. This should be from 1991-1997.
While 1997-2001, should show the rise of the import scene. Maybe Dom toys with a Datsun 240z (350 swap closer to what he is used) at first, then gets into the rotary scene with the RX7. His winning helps grow his garage.
Anyway, that's what I would want out of a Fast and Furious prequel. No more space, no more time travel no more CIA stuff. Just racing and heists.
