curious why so many with 30+ year horizon lean towards SCHD instead of VOO/VTI?

As the title says, I'm genuinely curious why we see so many people with 30+ years before retirement going so heavy into SCHD instead of something like VOO or VTI? Is it because they actually need the income from SCHD now? The reason I mention VOO and VTI is because they are often discussed in the same convo with SCHD on this sub.

Anyone in here only invested in dividend paying stocks? Or do you do Growth as well?

I own a few growth stocks but recently with dividend paying ETF’s like TSLY, NVDY, APLY, OARK etc I have pulled Most of money out of some of my growth stocks to capture huge dividend payments. I don’t know how long these ETF’s can keep it up but I will take the ride! What do you guys think of a plan like this? I’ve done the conservative approach in the past. Taking in more risk for more reward
