We have a six-year old daughter entering first grade this Fall at her private school. We do love the school overall. We will have no other children. We wouldn't send our child to the public schools we are assigned to in our current home.

• HHI: $330k per year. Both 95% remote, tech workers

• NW: $1M. $600k in retirement accounts, $350k in home equity, $50k in investments

• Total future cost of private school: $400k-$450k (2nd-12th grade, factoring in recent 4% inflation adjustments the school has been doing)

• Current home value: $525k - $575k

• Current Mortgage: $200k mortgage with 7 years remaining @ 2.0% interest

• Future Home: $875k-$950k, about 30 minutes further out of the city, to be in a great school zone with the amenities we want that our current home lacks.

We have considered just doing private school here, selling the house in about 12 years, and moving on. However, even with high interest rates, it seems like a financial no brainer to at least explore a move. And, if interest rates fall again in the several years ahead, a refinance could make things financially more advantageous. Financially speaking, what factors am I missing?

And, more importantly, I really appreciate your experiences if you've considered a transition like this. Not everything in life is purely financial, so what other factors played into your decision?
