Anti-aging that is NOT retinol?

Whenever I use a retinol product consistently, I notice I get cold sores more often. I tried not to apply near my mouth area, but they still popped up once in a while. I use SPF daily.

For my nighttime routine, are there ingredients/products I can use that are good for preventative aging that are NOT retinol?

Folks who have been using anti aging skincare for 5+ years - does it make a difference with long term aging?

I started an anti aging skincare regime when I was 25 (this includes daily SPF 50, AHAs, vitamin c, retinol and more recently tret, hydroquinone, NuFace). I recall being excited because it was like I had stumbled upon some forbidden knowledge that regular people didn’t have access to. I felt that starting young would mean I’d age slower than my peers.

Fast forward 7 years and I’m now 32. While my skin does look good and I do receive compliments on it, I find that I don’t necessarily look younger than any of my peers who are less savvy about skincare - in fact a few look younger than I do. My skincare has seemingly done nothing to combat or delay the major signs of aging, which are facial volume loss and sagging.

I’m interested to know what others’ experience have been with long-term skincare use. Does it make a difference with visible aging or does it just make your skin nice? Will I perhaps see the pay off further down the line, say when I’m 40 50 or 60?

Anti aging & rosacea

I am 46 yrs old with type 2 rosacea. I used metro for a year with great success and no flare ups for nearly 5 years and not having to use the metro at all. I have recently been experiencing some new flare ups which I believe are linked to food and stress (but that’s a whole other post for another day). I’m starting to panic at the idea of never having used anti aging products and would like to incorporate some. I know personally that I need to avoid fragrance and sulfates. I’m curious what anti aging products people have used that have not exacerbated type 2 issues. For my regular routine (AM&PM) I am currently using:

-Bioderma Sensibio micellar water -Aveeno calm and restore cleanser (I alternate between the nourishing oat cleanser and the redness relief cleanser) -Metronidazole -Aveeno calm and restore redness relief cream -Aveeno daily face cream (fragrance free) -Farmacy Wake Up Honey eye cream

Looking to add an anti aging step. Preferably not RX.

Anti aging procedures vs skin care topics — do we need a new sub?

I totally support Botox and cosmetic procedure and may get Botox in the future myself. However, I am not a fan of how this sub has become a forum for anti-aging procedures rather than skin care.

Is there some way of the sub splitting? Or are we as a sub ok with this trend — which is fine, I’ll change my settings so I’m not looking so often — I just don’t enjoy all topics that have taken over.
