TLDR: Took my dog to the vet to get a quote for dental cleaning. When paying they first wanted to charge me for a consultation until I explained that I was there for a pre-op check/estimate and they told me the cost would be deducted from the total of the procedure. The next day they called me and told me “sorry, there was a misunderstanding and it’s not going to be deducted. After some arguing they finished with "if you don’t like it you can change vet”.

I called my usual vet to ask them for an estimate on dental cleaning. As cost can vary a lot (from £240 to £1k depending on dental extractions and so on) they need to see the dog to give me a better estimate so I book an appointment.

During the payment (£60), they tell me that this is actually a consultation charge and not a pre-op assessment because they weighed the dog and listened to her heart. I tell them that was not what I had been told on the phone and after a little back and forth they agreed to deduct it from the procedure (the total amount was £870 pounds).

The next day, first thing in the morning, another person from the Vet calls me and explains to me that they were sorry there was a misunderstanding and that what I paid will not be deducted from the total because they weighed the dog and looked at her teeth. After some arguing, they basically told me that if I wasn’t happy I could change vets but that including the payment in the dental cleaning total was not an option.

This happened a couple of weeks ago. I have since found a different vet who did a pre-op check (which will be deducted from the dental cleaning) and I have booked the service with them and canceled the other booking with my initial veterinarian. The cost is almost identical so it’s not even a matter of price here but I felt mistreated.

Would a chargeback for the £60 be a good move?
