I missed the conspiracy thread yesterday and have wanted to ask people about this for years.

Christian Bale and director Mary Harron are set to make the movie, but Bale is fired by Lions Gate after Dicaprio agrees to do the film. Harron refuses to make the film without Bale, so she's fired too and Oliver Stone is brought in. Before filming can begin, DiCaprio quits, which prompts Stone to leave too, forcing the studio back to Harron and Bale, and the rest is history.

Now the interesting part is that Bale continued prepping for the movie, despite being thrown off it. Bale, on making Psycho: "And I just said 'no I'm still making the film. Even though other actors were cast and other directors were on board, I just kept prepping. I would call Mary and she would say 'Christian, they've given it to other people', and I would say 'Yeah yeah yeah it doesn't matter, we're still going to make it.'"

While this is going on, DiCaprio attends a Yankees game with Gloria Steinem, who tells him his image will be ruined by playing Bateman and he should drop the movie. Which he does.

Gloria Steinem is engaged to Christian Bale's father at the time. I'm guessing she told him she could get DiCaprio to drop the movie, so he kept prepping. What better way to ingratiate yourself to your new stepson than to help him land a role he's been angling for all year?

I'm curious if anyone else has ever noticed this, or if this is already common knowledge, because I couldn't find much about it besides the individual details.
