This subreddit is devoted to discussing any and all copyright-friendly/legal video streaming options that can be used as an alternative to a subscription to cable TV, satellite TV or IP TV. Also welcome are topics centered on "cordshaving," which means *reducing* your cable/dish subscription, and replacing what you "shave" with streaming options. According to a July 2012 article at MaineToday.com, "One of the best online forums on the subject is at Reddit.com/r/cordcutting."

Bug fixes and performance improvements.

What I noticed:

You will have to log in again. Make sure to do a restart or a power unplug after install.

Continue watching sometimes still says continue (but without the 1s remaining), and sometimes says rewatch. I haven't figured out the exact circumstances or sequence of events yet. Apparently still not the same as the Android app where finished shows would have dropped out. Bummer.

Somewhat faster startups after the splash screen. This may be observational bias on my part, though...

Leaving and restarting the app returns you to where you left off if you were in the menu, but redirect you to the show page if you were playing an episode. However, if you restart the stick, then it goes back to the top menu. Not sure if this is a good thing or not, waiting to see what effect new episode releases will have on updating the menu status.

Your first pause still darkens the screen, but subsequent pauses (after you let it clear by itself) simply stop the video without darkening.

Left/right on the navigation circle no longer forward/reverse the video, only the forward/reverse arrows do that now. Pressing down twice on the nav circle brings back the scene boxes and enables the left/right presses to work again. Down only once just shows the progress bar, but doesn't allow left/right to work.

Still has separate sub/dub "seasons", but the word "season" is spelled out now instead of "S".

Seems to have lost the functionality of pressing the three-bar button shortcut to the side menu, now it does nothing.

Edit: Holding down the FF or rew buttons actually goes through the video faster now, more like the behavior you'd expect instead of only 10 seconds at a time. Single presses still do 10 seconds.

They broke/changed the watchlist button press functionality. Prior, pressing center on the nav wheel gave you a menu to play, go to show or remove from the watchlist. Now it just plays the appearing episode. I'm not real happy about this change, because you have to play (changing your watch history) then exit the vid to get to the show page from your watch list... Edit: I found a secret passage to that old menu without starting an episode: Do a "long press" of the center button. Hold it until you see what looks like a buffer wheel, then let go. You now have the "start/go to/remove" pop-up menu for that show, which functions as it used to.

Another edit: They have added a control for audio language, but it doesn't let you change it; it only shows the choice that it is already playing. To actually change audio, you must use some other player that does work, such as a browser, start the episode, click the gear, change the audio there, and let it play for something like 30 seconds to a minute. Exit the FTV app and go back in to continue watching. Now it should be on the language you switched on the other app and should continue there. If you want to change it back, you have to go back to the other player again to do it. I hope they aren't planning to leave it that way...

Closed captions on the few dubs that currently have them (not the same as subtitles) are turned on in the profile settings area within the CR app. Their appearance/style can be changed somewhat in the main stick gear settings, then "Accessibility", then "Closed Caption" (turn it on and play with the settings that show up under that.)
