Now, I know that despite the many money this movie has made, and the average ratings many people hate it, and I understand why, but I do want to share some of the reasons why this movie is one of my personal favourites

1: The continuity. I love how it’s set after the events of the original story, unfortunately it makes Alice herself much less interesting but wonderland and the characters are much more interesting. One of the reasons why critics seem to hate this movie is that it’s not alike previous adaptations of the story, where I like that this movie is confident in the fact it doesn’t want to be like the others, it’s a story in wonderland we’ve never seen before, and I personally love creativity, and originality, the things which this movie has the most of.

2: The characters. We see how the characters have changed since the events of the original story, and we see this especially in the Mad hatter, the March hare, and Mallymkun. Mallymkun has changed into a revolutionary and rebellious fighter who have had enough of the evil queen of hearts domain. The March hare has died out and seem depressed from all these years of doing the same, and the same, and the same, yet he still sometimes get anger outbursts, it’s almost as if he has gotten depression, which is quite normal under the conditions he lives in. The mad hatter is less mad because of the evil queens tyranny, he obviously had to get his shit together to be able to survive and now we also see him as kind of depressed, and yet he still wants revolution. We also notable logical character changes in Absolem

3: The tone. The tone of this Alice in wonderland fits perfectly, and instead of a goofy fever dream it is now a more dull depressing fever dream wonderland. It works great with what this Alice in wonderland story is about, revolution, revolution agains the queen of hearts.

4: The costumes. This is a minor reason but the costumes, the makeup, the props, the looks of everything, it’s something that feels so odd, yet so right.

Now these are some of the reasons I loved this movie. I will not deny there are flaws about this movie, many to be honest, but I love it, and you may hate, and that’s fine.
