I get so tired of seeing the myth that RO-DI water will make you sick, so I've decided to angry post about it. I'll even go as far as to science it a bit to put everyone at ease.

Let's just use a water analysis as a good starting point. Here is my water report from my house:

https://imgur.com/DgDQupy

We will pick a few of the classic things people worry about NOT having in RO-DI water are. There are more, but this will be a good enough example for people to "get the picture."

  1. Magnesium. Adult man requirements = 400mg/day. My perfectly acceptable to drink water has <0.5mg/L. I would have to drink 800 Liters a day to meet my magnesium requirements. I could have a bowl of oatmeal and a handful of peanuts, or drink 800 Liters of water.

  2. Iron. Adult man requirements = 8mg/day. My perfectly acceptable to drink water would require me to drink 133L a day. Or I could eat 6oz of a meat. Which one will kill me?

  3. Potassium. Adult man requirements = 3400mg/day. Not even tested on my water sample because it's so stupid to test. Average water amount = 2.5 mg/L. 1300 L of water to meet my potassium requirements.

  4. Zinc. Adult man requirements = 11mg/day. 110L of my water needed. Or a single portion of meat and you are halfway done.

  5. Calcium. Adult man requirements = 1000mg/day. I would have to drink 1000L of my water to meet that requirement. Fucking 250L for the "average" calcium content of water in the US. Eat some seeds or cheese and don't die of water toxicity instead.

So, there ya have it. It's a myth, it's stupid, and stop repeating it.

Even if you weren't eating while drinking only RO-DI you would starve to death long before the RO-DI water hurt you.
