English ethnicity question

Hey guys, American here, my brother is having a very heated argument with me that there is no such thing as an English ethnicity. He insists there is only Scottish, Irish, and Welsh, and no such thing as English, because he’s never met a single person who claims English as their ethnicity. So does anyone know of any relatively famous-ish people who are ethnically English. 😂 Seems to be the only thing that convinces him of anything, is knowing an actual human being for example.

Since when has using someone’s ethnicity to point out to somebody the people your talking about racist?

Say your in a crowd of people with a friend. Your looking around for your other friends who are here somewhere. You spot them seated behind two Asian women. You tell your friend “there they are! Behind those two Asian women.”

Your friend says “shh don’t say that, that’s racist….” What? This has become beyond absurd

What’s the difference between Species, Race and Ethnicity?

English is not my first language, and i think that contributed toward me not understanding this better. I searched online but couldn’t find an answer that was clear to me.

Can someone explain it to me with some examples if possible. Thanks.

Edit: I read almost 80 comments from all of you, and i appreciate all the answers. what i came to conclude from this that, Species and Ethnicity are more well defined and understood by most here, unlike Race. It looks to me that Race has a broad meaning too it, and understood by many differently. My situation when i was worldbuilding that, i had Specie A ( shorter, darker skin ) and Specie B ( taller, lighter skin ) live in the same world, and after a major catastrophic event, they want to reproduce together mixing both traits to bring on (Specie C ?!). Both Species A and B will go extinct leaving (Species C ?!), and i want from that to have people from deferent characteristics to live in a general area like the ( the South ) for example, and from there introduce multiple ethnic groups. So how would that look in a hierarchy in relation to the original question ?

How do I handle being asked illegal questions about my ethnicity, origin etc during a interview?

My interview felt weird to me for several reasons. One the whole rushed feeling of it they were eager to get me in and out. Which I never really experienced tbh. But what really bothered me is they asked me questions about the origin of my name. The lady interviewing me half her questions were like how did you get that name, it's Turkish. And yeah I'm black so I do not look Turkish. I said I was American and did she asked me where my parents are from I said the same. She asked me how did we get a last name like that what is the origin. I told her my grandmother converted to Islam. She asked me where did I grow up I said the Bronx and the guy there then asks me how did I end up from all the way in the Bronx to Chicago at a top uni I won't name.

I felt uncomfortable but I also was so used to it I kinda laughed it off. But that feeling of being othered did not leave me. My therapist was so angry hearing my story and said those questions are illegal as it brings up my ethnicity, nationality, place of origin and race etc. How should I handle such a situation in the future during a job interview? Or can I at all? I will not be going forward with that place btw. Their pay sucks anyway..
