The small snapshots of life that spark me joy, yet not quite upliftingnews or humansbeingbros. Just inconsequential things like friends laughing their asses off over silly things and people being emotional about the ones they love.

The purpose of this sub is to discuss games and gaming culture, contextualized by POC gamers' experiences and perspectives. POCs and non-POCs welcome here. Due to the possibly controversial nature of this sub, this will be heavily moderated. This more /r/truegaming than in the vein of /r/girlgamers and /r/gaymers. That said we're currently working on a sub appropriate for more cultural / meme style / etc discussion.

I'm so done with people telling me I'm too American or not American enough.

I'm over purists shitting on blended culture. I'm over foreigners ranting at me about AmericaBad like they look at me and obviously don't see an American. I'm over self-haters trying to rope me into the self-hate train. I'm done with old world and new world fundies invalidating my interpretation of the religion I fucking grew up under. And I'm especially over white people informing me about who I am, regardless of my input.

-

Surfer rock and west coast rap. Orange chicken and ranch dressing. Childhood robbed by the extracurricular industrial complex. Poison ivy and chaparral. Spanish named streets and cities. Big box store hellscapes. Converse sneakers and hoodies with those stupid kangaroo pockets. Social satire dubbed over anime. Slinging gas station slushies and cardboard churros on minimum wage. Mistrusting the system.

This is my culture.

-

The last Native Americans from this land I stand on, passed on their social values to friends who wrote them down in books that raised me as a child, while my parents where skiving off. The civil rights thinkers who spoke to my reality when no adult in my life treated me like a person. Jaded suburban white hippies who raged against the machine. The old country philosophies that tell me to lift my head against the old country philosophies that compel me to bow and submit.

These are my founding fathers and mothers.

-

The furtive world of mostly non-white folks who keep one or two tor ten toes outside of legality, united by the common language of cash under the table. Queer BIPOC kids subconsciously signaling to each other and gravitating together. People who are unafraid to think, unafraid to be sincere, unafraid of the dark, scared of falling asleep, scared of authority, scared of dehumanization.

These are my people.

-

When I am condescended to, when my substance is flattened, when supremacists or essentialists dictate to me what I think or feel or know--I will remember what is warm and familiar, I will recall the good and the bad that watered my roots. I will cook my food and sing my songs and care for my people.

I've heard a lot of argument as to why the draft should only apply to men and so far haven't heard any that aren't based in sexism or would also be an argument why nonmen should be eligible for the military. I did hear a new one today which I still disagree with but would like to see if anyone has any I haven't heard that make sense. Here are the arguments I've heard so far. :

Argument 1: Men are physically stronger than Nonmen.

Counterpoint: Generally this is true but this would mean we should draft not based on gender but based on size. Statistically speaking, some races are biologically stronger than others, meaning that you would need to support race based drafting as well, which I think most would be against. In addition to this, this would mean a couch potato man would be drafted instead of a Olympic athlete nonman who would be far more capable.

Argument 2: Nonmen aren't suited for combat

Counterpoint: Nobody is suited for combat. It's not really something you could ever prepare for and it's one of the reasons many people choose not to join or continue serving. Along with that not every job requires combat and there's so many places people could fill to support whether it be a mechanic, nurse, cook, driver, pretty much whatever job you can think of in the normal world would be needed in this situation.

Argument 3: Nonmen shouldn't be drafted because we would need to increase the population

Counterpoint: This is the new argument and this one is pretty out there. In order for this to make sense there would need to be a sort of 'baby draft' which we all likely see the issue with. And since this is in the same vein, that "abortion rights" argument also doesn't work because this means that if the right to abortion remains then non-men should be drafter but this doesn't alter peoples mind.

Argument 4: ABC doesn't have XYZ rights.

Counterpoint: I don't think you'll find a single group who unanimously agrees that they have all the rights they could ever want. If we were to base the draft on this then I don't think we'd be able to draft a single person.

These are the 3 main arguments I've seen and disagree with. The reason I think everyone should be drafted is because over time people have fought for all races, sexualities and genders to be in the military with most recently transpeople not only being able to enlist, but also receive gender affirming surgery. Maybe in the past this made sense, but many of these people are thriving and having successful careers mainly due to technology now allowing for a significantly lower standard of strength and fitness needed to be of use. This is saying that nonmen should have the choice but not the obligation which I think completely goes against where our culture is headed.

Tl;Dr: So long as someone is of reasonably sound body and mind, I think they should be eligible to be drafted in the event it's necessary.

To CMV I would like a new argument not based in sexism and consistent with where it seems people want society to go. I will give a delta for even a slight change from an argument that fills that criteria
