Famous Harvard & UMich educated Berkeley Math prof dies

From New York Times … lonely boy genius to Harvard-trained star of pure mathematics ….. He had scored 167 on an I.Q. test as a boy and entered Harvard at 16. In graduate school, at the University of Michigan, he worked in a field of mathematics so esoteric that a member of his dissertation committee estimated that only 10 or 12 people in the country understood it. By 25, he was an associate professor at the University of California, Berkeley. ….

To those of you prefrosh and current college students, out of all the colleges you got in, what would be your second choice college to go to? Also, what college will you attend in the fall or are attending currently and what major? Just out of curiosity.

I am going to attend ASU this fall for Marketing (Digital and Integrated Marketing Communications). Might most likely major in business data analytics and might switch major to sum like finance or accounting.

Second choice would have been Purdue. Initially was my first choice but I heard the housing wasn’t the best and I chose ASU because I didn’t tour Purdue and ASU seemed better for me and is also ranked better for business.

What are some non-cliche valedictorian intros without the "Good afternoon graduates, parents, etc..." stuff?

I know this doesn't relate to college at all but I'm working on my valedictorian speech right now and I want to have an intro that is just "good afternoon" because that's kind of boring lmao.

Every Mistake I Made when Applying to Colleges and Universities

Not looking into Privates because of cost. Most Privates have amazing financial aid and can be comparative financially with some in state public schools.
Most Privates don’t cost more out-of-state
Apply to most colleges with Early Action if available, for some schools Regular Decision might be better (UVA)
Get through your essays with at least 2 weeks before the application deadline
Re-read and check through your entire application. Don’t want your chances to be messed up based on a clerical error
Look into median SAT/ACT scores for the colleges your applying to. If you are above the 50th-75th percentile, include them and try to not go test-optional when the school your applying to has a significant amount of test-submitted applicants (Look into their post-COVID stats if available)
Please make your Common App essay interesting and not a sob story or volunteering story (unless its truly significant to your development)
If you get into your 2nd favorite school and not your 1st, gaslight yourself into thinking you made the right choice
Apply to some eh schools with great financial aid, see if you get that fullbright

What colleges do you think I would be a qualified applicant for?

I already know I'm going to apply to Princeton, Columbia, and Yale, even if it's unrealistic, simply because I'll regret never knowing if I could have gotten into my dream school. That being said, I'm still waffling about what other colleges I want to submit an application to, especially since the fees are so high.

Desired Major: Art, and currently interested in language for a minor

GPA: 3.95, both weighted and unweighted. And no, I didn't take any AP courses, which is by far the weakest point of my application and freaking me out badly. I had specific reasons for this, but still.

Highest SAT: 1580 ~~(haven't taken the ACT yet, or any subject tests)~~

Ext. Activities: Won an international art competition (lengthy interview, work featured in magazine and NY exhibit), currently working as a concept artist for a highly recognizable company, won top prizes at state fair, founded a non-profit (fairly large number of participants / raised 20K+), Vice President of the National Honor Society, 100+ hours of volunteer work for the TNR feral cat program, and a member of Art/German clubs at school. There's some more stuff, but this is pretty much the gist.

Edit: I'm also working on getting some pieces into the Guggenheim. Nothing's guaranteed at the moment, but that would probably look good if it did happen.

LOR and Essays: So my essay is only a draft right now, but I'm confident I can make it memorable (partially because I kind of have to, if I want any chance of getting into a reach). I've always been really close with a lot of my teachers, too, so I'm not worried about the letters of recommendation. The letter from my counselor probably won't be as strong, but I certainly don't think she would write anything unflattering.

Optional Arts Supplement: Will be submitting one, and I'm hoping it'll work in my favor, not against me.

Current In-State Options: UNC of Chapel Hill, Davidson, and Lenior-Rhyne. Also, I have no problem with going out-of-state, but would preferably like to stay near the East Coast (especially somewhere North, since I just moved from the South in September and don't want to go back lol).
