Is there any hope of recovery if you're still sick after 3 years? Bad relapse after 100% recovery.

Question

I am an OG variant long hauler who got infected March 2020, started long hauling July 2020 after starting an intense exercise regimen. For 9-10 months from 2021 - 2022, I was fully recovered - no symptoms, able to engage in intense exercise again without triggering PEM, and thought I had put this nightmare chapter of my life behind me.

In October, I started a high stress job as an MD in private practice and gradually, my symptoms returned - slowly at first, but then by February 2023, symptoms became consistent. I was in denial and didn't want to give up my job so I pushed through even though I felt like I had the flu + dementia daily. I got sicker and sicker and had to take medical leave this week. I am now the sickest I've ever been - main symptoms are fatigue, flu-like malaise, PEM, brain fog, headaches, muscle aches. I am so weak that I am mostly housebound at this point.

I am feeling BEYOND HOPELESS. How can I get completely well and healthy and then become the sickest I've ever been during all of my long haul? My symptoms track with ME/CFS - does this mean I will never recover?

Brain fog developing after over a year?

Symptoms

Just wondered if this happened to anyone else please? I've not noticed any brain fog really since I was infected last March, up until maybe the last month or so, when I've started struggling to find words (very frustrating!), like, I'll want to say "that car was moving quickly" and my brain will circle around fake words like "fastly", "zoomingly", "really not slowly" before remembering that "QUICKLY" is the word we were after!

My attention span and concentration has gone out the window and, although I did this before, I'm having far more issues with going into rooms and forgetting why I've gone in there.

Just a bit scary to have this suddenly develop, when before, I was pin-sharp mentally. Same old story I suppose for many people in here.

I am also wondering though, as a sideline, if I've been killing off braincells by looking at my phone too much, agonising over my health... I dunno. It feels brain-foggy, but also can there be another reason perhaps? Idk....
