Liberia, officially the Republic of Liberia, is a country on the West African coast. Liberia was the first African republic to proclaim its independence, and is Africa's first and oldest modern republic. Rwanda, officially the Republic of Rwanda, is a sovereign state in central and east Africa. Located a few degrees south of the Equator, Rwanda is bordered by Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The Gambia is Africa's most fascinating nation, a tiny state that simply runs along the coast of a small river. Created by the British Commonwealth, it is one of the few English-speaking Muslim countries in the world. It is enclosed by the larger nation of Senegal on all sides, except that it fronts on the Atlantic Ocean. Its chief exports are fabrics, coconuts and lumber, and the national sport is wrestling.
