  1. This is a magical record that I’ve enjoyed for years. The first time I heard any Gene Clark solo work was in the mid 80s on a Nuggets comp Rhino Records were releasing at the time. That song was ‘Echoes’…..

That prompted me to purchase his solo album re-issue on Edsel shortly after. Couldn’t believe how GREAT it was. ‘Elevator Operator’ is pure Sunset Strip ’66. I’ve since managed to locate both 45 releases on Columbia but have not acquired an original LP yet.

    Gene Clark was a genius…..

  2. Hey Larry…This is one of my top five LPs of my life. I remember picking it up cheap within a year after it came out because they were already remaindering the mono copies in the bins. I have followed this LP through the three CBS/Sony re-packages (once on LP with remastering, a cassette with extra tracks and the Echoes Cd reissue with the extra 45 tracks) and have finally begun to assemble the OTHER side of this , the Gosdin Brothers LP, Sounds of Goodbye, that was originally out on Capitol fairly concurrently and features many of the same musicians. most notably Clarence White. One of the songs on it was covered by the Byrds on The Ballad of Easy Rider LP,’Someone to Turn To’. Interested readers might want to explore the postings by LD at The Adios Lounge blog, which are more than cool, they are book worthy at a scholar’s level. So if this stuff gets you (as I think it SHOULD) look for the Gosdin Brothers re-issue out now of Sounds of Goodbye and here the other side of the story.

  3. Gene Clark’s first group was the New Christy Minstrels. He’s on the Christmas album.
Following that came the Beefeaters who were the pre Flyte Byrds
