But 737s and 320s are all basically meant for 3-3 configuration (except La Compagnie). So structure width is a huge limiting factor no matter how you slice and dice it. It's up to the airline to provide amenities and final seat width, but again, the structure width determines all that in the end.

I have a rental 2022 Explorer with the 2.3 ecoboost and 10-speed.

Yup... the 10-speed sucks ass. Just like the article says; it's jerky and unresponsive. Doesn't downshift when you need power, and if it does downshift, it's a hard jerk and goes to a gear that may be too low.

I'm quite surprised because Nissan, with their issues they've had in the past, has a 8-speed that is phenomenal. I had a Frontier rental, that V6 paired with the 8-speed is an amazing combo.
