Today I Fucked Up

Star QualityTearing Up

I (26M) have never really been in relationship. I'm on the spectrum, not good at reading people, bla bla bla. Three years ago, when I was working my first job post college, I met this woman from another department (40F) She was friendly and funny, and we ate lunch together a lot. We were both getting different jobs in a few months, so I saw no harm in asking her if she wanted to hang out outside of work. We did and we ended up hooking up.

This wasn't her first time doing and FwB thing, and she laid down some very reasonable guidelines if this was going to work. No PDA, don't exclusively hang out to hook up, and if either of us ends up in a relationship we'd break it off. That was all fine and she quickly became one of my best friends. We both had a few flings over the past three years, her more than me but that was fine, in hindsight I should've noticed things earlier.

About 18 months ago, she started relaxing on the PDA rule, she started holding my hand in public and little stuff like that. Sometimes we'd go over eachother's place just to cuddle for a while, which we never really did before. What should've made things obvious was the fact that according to her she hasn't hooked up with anyone else in the better part of year.

We were out to lunch last week, and she mentioned how her lease was expiring this year. The housing situation is fucked so I told her if she needed a place to stay my couch was ready for her. She then really shocked me by casually saying "You know, maybe we could just find a bigger place together, we've basically been together this past year. That's when it finally clicked why her behavior was slowly changing, she doesn't just see me as a friend anymore.

She sorta realized we should've talked about this sooner when she saw my face, and started apologizing. I said no worries, I just need a few days to think things over, don't worry about it. The more I've thought about it the more I realized my thoughts for her have changed. I don't just see her as a friend either, I think about her more and in a different way than my friends. So I called her the other day and asked to meet to talk.

I explained how I felt the best I could, that I wasn't sure how I felt about her, but whatever it was I felt it a lot. I did tell her I was worried about ruining our friendship, but she said it wouldn't be a big deal if it doesn't work out. We ended up making it official that night, and when her lease expires in a few months she's going to move in with me. This is going to be hard to explain to my friends and family, but we'll make it work I suppose.

TL;DR: My FwB and I might be in love, and it took me more than a year to figure it out.

My cousin is due in July with a baby girl. During her whole pregnancy, she has been dropping hints about the name she picked. She would say things like, "Children bring this". My first guess was something normal like Hope. I figured children bring hope to the world. IDK. Anyways, nothing could have prepared me or my family (my mom and siblings) for what she was planning. She wants to name her baby Light Bringer, "Brings" as a nickname. I thought she was joking, but she isn't.

I came to Reddit to ask for advice. I was hoping to maybe get her to change the baby's name. After posting to r/circlenamejerks others agreed with me that the name she picked is terrible. They offered alternatives that sound better. I decided to video chat with my cousin and politely ask her if she'd want to change the name. I offered some alternatives and she wouldn't budge. I told her that the name Lucifer means Light Bringer. She did not care. I found out that she originally had some other names picked up. These names are a little better than Light Bringer. She had Andromeda, Cassiopeia, and Starr to name a few. I asked her why she didn't like those names, and she just shrugged. She then mentioned something along the lines of getting the public's opinion. I decided to send her the post I posted to r/circlenamejerks.

Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/NameNerdCirclejerk/comments/13q84r7/how_to_stop_my_cousin/

Needless to say, she was not happy. I am not allowed near her family till she cools off. Her mom, siblings, and husband are not too happy with me now. I was going to delete my original post until my cousin accused me of being jealous of her because I (infertile) can't have kids. I told her this was not jealousy. I told her I simply don't think Light Bringer is a good name for a person. Whatever then, I guess you can name your kid whatever you want.

TL;DR I tried to get my cousin to change her soon-to-be baby's name. She is dead set on naming her Light Bringer and is now not talking to me. She accused me of being jealous because I suffer from infertility. Her whole family is mad at me for trying to tell her Light Bringer isn't a good name.

Today I fucked up by misjudging a situation and I am getting sued over complete nonsense which could be evaded.

So basically I did not do anything wrong at first...

I had a difficult time at work past couple of years so I asked a friend or I thought it was a friend for an advice because he is a lawyer, thinking what would be smart to do in my situation.

He says some things, and then we laughed, and as usual I asked if I owed something to him which he responded 50$ and I thought it was a joke.

No compensation was talked about before the task, only after it was completed which is why I even thought that it was a joke.

Usually i would get the advice and threat a friend with lunch or something we both like as you should for a friend.

But he was serious about the money and is suing me because I didn't pay him for his advice...

Today he sent me an email that I am getting sued for the 50$ and additional 50$ for his lawyer that he hired over this. Now I have mixed feelings, definitely did not expect this to happen.

Edit: Didn't expect this to explode like this, sorry for everyone that didn't get an answer from me. Like somebody said in the replies it's not about the money it's about being honest we know each other for a long time and people are shocked. I do realize that some people think that I am lying or not telling the story and I wish it didn't happen the way it did

Edit 2: This did not happen in USA or Canada, the money is being translated to USD for better understanding of the situation.
