The purpose of Mental Illness Mouse is not to replace your therapist, psychiatrist, psychologist, or doctor (or legal counsel). We encourage to keep seeking help from trained professionals. Do not ignore something your doctor says because of something we have said. Do not stopping taking your medications without speaking to a doctor first. Abruptly stopping your meds can lead to serious and sometimes life threatening side effects. If you have a medical emergency call emergency services such as 911.
The reason we have this site is to give you information. It’s also so that you know you’re not alone. Mental illness can be an isolating experience, and we want you to know that other people understand what you’re going through.
We cannot diagnose medical conditions. We can give you advice, but we will leave the actual medical treatment to those in a position to do it. You’re an individual person and your experience and treatment may not always match up exactly with every person who posts on this site. This does not mean that your diagnosis or treatment is wrong or even abnormal.
We do not endorse any specific medications, test, products, or procedures. We can only tell you what has happened to us in our own experience. Our experience is not a definite picture of what happens to everyone. The best person to explain medicines and treatment is your doctor.
We do not give out legal advice. Even if we could, I wouldn’t recommend seeking it from us anyway. Laws differ from state to state and country to country. Legal rights that exist in some places may not exist in other places. We can point you in the direction of statutes or information given by other sites. For legal counsel, please seek a licensed attorney in your area.
We understand that certain subjects can be triggering for some people. All our advice posts are tagged “ask MIM” so that you can block them if need be. We try to do our best to warn you of the specific triggers in a reply at the beginning of the post.
Opinions of askers and submitters do not necessarily represent the views of Mental Illness Mouse or its moderators. Moderators may disagree with each other.
We are very glad that you are seeking help for your mental illness. Having a mental illness does not make you weird, crazy, or a bad person. We encourage you to seek help both professionally and through your friends and family. The main goal is to get you to a point where you are happy with your life overall and are able to function to the best of your ability.
We’re here to help however we can.
