I have nothing against Aldi, let me say that at the start. It’s the phrase I’m tired of. It’s like our national catchphrase.

Everything costs a lot at the moment and sometimes I might say something like, geez meat or cereal was expensive on my last shop. It’s just to vent. But inevitably some helpful person will say JuST ShOp At ALdi like I’ve never heard of the place. There’s not an Aldi near my place, there’s a Woolworths near my place. I make no apologies for using the supermarket I can walk to rather than one I need to drive to.

And stuff is cheaper at Aldi, yes. Some stuff. A lot of stuff but not all of it. And ok cool you save a few bucks on a shop. Awesome. I have ten more dollars this week! I’ll definitely get a house with that ten dollars! Thank god I shopped at Aldi. It was that Aldi trip that fixed the veg shortage caused by the floods, and lowered the price of fuel by ending the war in Ukraine. It wouldn’t shock me if Albanese called a press conference to tell us all that his plan to address the cost of living is JuST ShOp At ALdi.

I’ve heard of Aldi. I know it’s a bit cheaper. Going there won’t solve all my problems, and the people who inevitably comment just shop at Aldi on this post aren’t clever.

Edit: time to use that Reddit cliche and say this got a bit bigger than I thought it would. I don’t love Woolworths or Coles. They’re wage thieves and big companies don’t need my advertising. Fuck em. The point of this was me having a little shout into the void to relieve some frustration. I don’t care if you love Aldi. I just don’t think they’re a magic bullet that automatically frees one from life’s problems. And yeah this is another post like so many that are complaining about the cost of living. It’s almost like that affects a lot of people, hey?
