LOVE!

I know this might seem like common sense, but I see a lot of young people dissuaded from taking their lives in certain directions because of how shitty the first several years can be (aside from the expenses in things like active training time and cost and such)

Take engineering, tattooing, pilots, music, or martial arts. All of these things SUCK for most people in the first few years, because it requires a fundamental rewiring of the brain in many ways to understand the patterns, rhythms, principles and tricks of the trade. But once you get several years in and you look back and see how much better you've become, and how much further you can go, you can genuinely find a place of belonging in knowing the same things other skilled people know, the appreciation laypeople or other skilled people have for your skillset, and the sense of worth you can have by being able to contribute to the community in a way that many other people are unable to do.

"Sucking at something is the first step towards getting kinda good at something."

-Jake the Dog

EDIT: Maybe my wording was poor. Yes, I mean professions, not jobs. I thought that was a given lmfao. I shouldn't have said "ANY occupation" but come on, 5 years of working on an assembly line or fast food kitchen is not going to increase the negotiable value of your skillset. 5 years of working at something where you can still learn new things after 5 years is what I'm talking about. That's why I used the examples of "engineering, tattooing, pilots, music, or martial arts" things where it takes a while to learn new things, and people with those skillsets are not easily replaceable.

Maybe I should have titled it:

LPT: When considering passions or directions, choose something that allows you to still be learning new things after 5 years, because that is not easy to replace and will make you implicitly valuable in different ways to your workplace, community, and create a sense of intrinsic self-worth, because you can pass on skills to others.
